Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Anamaria Anderson
The story of the wolf and the seven little kids is one of the lesser known of the Grimms' tales. This retelling, part of the "Fairy Tales" subset of the "Read it! Readers" series, stays close to the original. Mama Goat warns her seven kids to beware of the wolf, whom they will know by his hoarse voice and gray paws. While she is out, the wolf comes knocking at their door. He tricks the kids into opening it and eats all but the littlest, who hides in the grandfather clock until his mother returns. Mama Goat rescues the kids from the wolf's belly—and the wolf meets a timely end, too. Some elements of the story may remind children of Little Red Riding Hood, also a Grimms' tale. The Spanish text, a translation of the English edition, is relatively difficult; it would benefit from more repetition and formatting characteristics of early readers. Digitally created illustrations are simple and brightly colored.
