Arthur Conan Doyle
Nace en Edimburgo el 22 de mayo de 1859. Educado por jesuitas hasta su entrada en la universidad Stonyhurst para cursar estudios de medicina, Conan Doyle sufre una crisis religiosa que provocará en el futuro escritor conflictos familiares y tensiones espirituales que derivarán en teorías espiritistas. Ejerce la medicina entre 1882 y 1890, y comienza a escribir Estudio en escarlata, primera obra en la que crea el famoso personaje de Sherlock Holmes y su ayudante, el doctor Watson. Sherlock Holmes adquirió tanta popularidad que se convirtió en un mito literario, un personaje de ficción que llegó a oscurecer a su propio creador. Además del célebre detective, la obra de Arthur Conan Doyle está compuesta de novelas de anticipación -como El mundo perdido, conocida últimamente por las versiones cinematográficas o televisivas- y, asimismo, de obras históricas como La guerra de los Bóers y de relatos de otros géneros como el terror. A pesar de su notable éxito no recibe ningún premio a lo largo de toda su trayectoria literaria. En 1902 se le otorga el tratamiento de Sir. Conan Doyle fallece el 7 de julio de 1930 en Crowborough (Inglaterra), con setenta y un años a causa de un ataque al corazón.
