Elbert's Bad Word... a teachable moment

I love reading this to all my kindergarten and first graders the first week of school. So many children come to school using their own vocabulary and soon get into trouble. This book never tells what the bad word is but the children always ask, "What is the bad word?" My answer is always the same, "YOU know what the bad word is." They never forget the bar of soap and learn new sparkly words to use in place of bad words. It is now December, I read the book in August and when asked what their favorite book was, it is always.. Elbert's Bad Word.. Don't miss the teachable moment...
