Twenty-three articles by physicians from Switzerland, the US, UK, and France are organized under the following headings: elbow, trauma, soft tissue injury, and reconstruction. Designed for orthopedists and residents-in-training, the book details—in text, drawing, and vividly close, color photographs—procedures for such injuries as radial head fractures, olecranon fractures, distal biceps tendon rupture, ulnar collateral ligament injuries, and nerve decompression. Reconstructive techniques include ulnohumeral arthroplasty, interposition arthroplasty, semiconstrained total elbow replacement, and anconeus arthroplasty. Description: This is a well-illustrated and informative treatment of surgical procedures performed on the elbow. Beautiful intraoperative photography supplemented with clear line drawings make this book an outstanding operative atlas.
Purpose: The purpose is to "demonstrate the surgical procedures that are effective for the management of elbow pathology." The elbow is often involved as compared to the knee, hip, or shoulder, and this book is a useful addition to the orthopedic literature.
Audience: The book is targeted to the practicing orthopedic surgeon, but it would also be very useful to the orthopedic resident who is learning new procedures. The author is a well-respected elbow surgeon, and the individual chapters are written by physicians who are preeminently qualified and experienced.
Features: The book is well organized, indexed, and referenced. The illustrations are of superior quality.
Assessment: This book is extremely useful to the orthopedic surgeon doing elbow surgery. The illustrations and diagrams are extremely clear and informative. Sections on preoperative diagnosis and postoperative management provide a thoughtful and logical approach to common surgical problems about the elbow.

Demonstrates the surgical procedures that are effective for the management of elbow pathology. The selection of particular topics is based on common conditions that present to general orthopaedic surgeons, as well as some topics designed to provide a spectrum appropriate for more experienced surgeons. While the emphasis is on the technical aspects of the procedure, the indications and contraindications are clearly delineated in each chapter. Notes on the postoperative program and special tips and insights to help avoid or treat the more common complications associated with each procedure are also included. Thoroughly illustrated with color photographs and b&w drawings. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
