    Seriously Awesome

I used to catch readings by Aberjhani in downtown Savannah years ago and I hear he doesn't do that anymore so this book is like really great for that reason and because I've never seen anything else like it either. I think the first time I heard about it was at one of those open mics and I remember reading about it but I just figured it was going to be a nice little book with a few pictures by Luther Vann. It is a big amazing book with seriously awesome art right next to words by one of my favorite contemporary poets. I didn't think anything could match Aberjhani's open mic slams but Elemental does. This is what poetry and art are supposed to be all about, taking you inside the soul and showing you how amazing it is.

    Two Great Books in One

I wasn't campaigning for a gift (honestly) when I did a friend and big favor and he decided to pay me back with this fantastic book but wow am I glad he did!!! Right off the bat the art blew me away because I couldn't remember seeing anything like it before and the colors were so powerful. No I'm not an art critic but like most people I know what I like when I see it and this I absolutely loved. I spent hours amazed by one image after another and had to leave it at that until the next day when I felt like I could handle reading about the artist. That brought a whole new understanding to the art and I was blown away again so had to put the book down again. Some days after that, I started reading the poetry. Some of it I recognized from Aberjhani's website but most I had never read before. The art was a treat that could have been a book by itself and now the poetry was like a prize that could have been a book by itself and I couldn't believe how incredibly beautiful the whole thing with them put together like two great books in one. Totally amazing stuff.

    A reviewer

I discovered Luther E. Vann's work when I went to the Jepson Center in Savannah to see an exhibit of photographs of Frida Kahlo, one of my favorite artists of all time. Just so happened that Vann had a show right next to the Kahlo photos and I ended up spending more time studying his amazing multi-perspective works than I did the photographs. Oddly enough, I didn't find out about the book until later and had to go back to the gift shop to pick up a copy. Flipping through the pages of Elemental, I had to multiply what I saw in the gallery by about 50. As phenomenal as this artist is, I couldn't believe I hadn't known anything about this work until now. Fortunately, the book not only has some pretty intense poetry to go along with the images but gives a lot of background on the artist. Discovering this artist and this book is one of the highlights of my summer.
