I am reading now. I have not finished this. yet. But in the other 10 books the chapters would jump back and forth between characters. This is written as different stories of the characters. They are telling the story of what life was like before becoming lepers. I am not sure if I like this format. It is easier to read because you can read on one person at a time and not have to remember what you had read as your chapters jump around. Basically it is written like a collection of short stories. By this style of writing you do not get the sit on the edge of your seat effect.
