You won't be able to put this one down!!! OH. MY. WORD. I should have known better than to pick up a Rachel Van Dyken book to read at night. I stayed up until 1:30 A.M. to finish! Because I literally could NOT STOP READING!!!! I kept thinking, just one more chapter...that didn't happen! This story was literally a roller coaster ride that I didn't want to end! In fact, I need the next book, like last night at 1:30, hint hint Rachel! The characters were amazing, I loved Trace from the beginning, she had spunk that I admired and Nixon I loved to hate...until I got to know him! Chase and Monroe, Tex and Phoenix, they were all different and fun as well. I felt like I was a part of the Elite world that Rachel Van Dyken created. This book seriously had me crying (I don't cry easily), laughing out loud and scared as heck. I loved the mystery and trying to put all of the pieces together. I am going to read this book again...tonight! I know, but it was that fabulous! I promise this book will exceed your expectations and leave you wanting more....a whole lot more! Hurry Rachel (PLEASE) because I am dying right now, and I need more Trace, Nixon, Monroe, Grandpa, Chase and Tex. I cannot get this world out of my head, it was so realistically created! The story keeps re-playing in my mind like a movie. BEST BOOK I HAVE READ THIS YEAR! Can I give a book ten stars? I want to, but five is the max so five bright shiny stars for an awesome read!!! I was lucky and received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review. I would have gladly paid for this book! Rating: Cussing, violence, sexual references.

If you have read Rachel Van Dyken before, Elite is unique from her previous books, in the best possible way! The storyline was very different than other books she has written (don't you just love an author who has that many distinctive stories to tell!) The book was full of drama, family, rules, friendships, loyalty, romance, action and of course SECRETS! Like all of Rachel's books, this book is defined by characters you cannot help but become attached to. It is a true gift that she possesses. She is also able to pull emotion out of the reader (well, at least this one)... smiles, chills and tears. Elite kept me on my toes throughout the entire book. I was never sure exactly what was waiting around the corner. I highly recommend this book! This book is definitely the first book in a series. Rachel Van Dyken left me desperately wanting to pick up the next book in the series. After having become so invested in all of the characters' lives, I NEED to know what happens next in their lives. At least I know that Rachel Van Dyken is an author with superpowers, so it cannot be TOO LONG that I will have to wait to find out what happens in the next book...Elect. I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

SO GOOD! Tracey won the lottery. And not just any lottery. The lottery that gained her admittance to the ultra-exclusive Eagle Elite, forever changing her life. I don’t know how she does it, but Rachel Van Dyken has hit it out of the park again! This book had me feeling so many emotions! Most of them were from her description of the students at Eagle Elite and the way they treated Tracey. Seriously, private school kids (even the college ones) are mean! Some of the scenes brought back memories from my own private school experience. Granted, mine wasn’t nearly as bad as Tracey’s, but it still felt eerily real. I found myself crying on multiple occasions because I knew exactly how she felt. There was humor, too, which was nice. I loved the banter between Tracey and Chase, especially the “shiny boot” comment. This book kept me guessing until the big reveal. I kept trying to decide what the big secret was, and just when I thought I had it figured out, there would come something out of left field and I’d be second-guessing myself. When the big secret is finally revealed, I found myself screaming “I knew it! I knew it!” even though I really didn’t, just to make myself feel better about not being able to figure it out before the author intended. Overall I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick and satisfying read. Note: there is some language and violence, so if that turns you off, read with caution.

I loved this book, it was such a great story had me hooked from the start. I loved Nixon and Chase. My only hope is that the "love" story line does not mimic that of her other book the bet, which was also great.

I have to admit when I started this book I had my doubts. It was absolutely amazing. So well written and full of suspense. I cannot wait for the next book. I'm hoping for a steamy sex scene!

Okay I have to say I LOVE Rachel's work and the fact that she is branching out to adult contemporary just shows how far she has come in her writing! I loved this book...well most of it. Not a huge fan of the language but it wasnt too bad. Trace is a very likeable character. A farm girl from Wyoming she fulfilled her grandma's dying wish and enetered to win a scholarship to Eagle Elite (the college of colleges). What she didn't expect was actually winning the scholarship. Upon arriving at the massive university she meets Nixon (aka Satan) and his groupies. After an interesting welcome from them and meeting her new roomate (Satan's sister) she tried to settle in to her new life. Things, however, dont go as well as hoped. Nixon is gorgeous, welathy, and an ass but there is something that draws Trace to him. He has confidence and authority that even has adults following his orders. The question is can Trace and Nixon overcome the secrets of their past to make a future, or will they even survive to find out? A great book and wonderful storyline...beware though it is a cliff hanger!

Honestly, from the overview I could not tell if I was going to like this book. However, I could not put this book down and each time I told myself I would stop at the next chapter, I didn't. Lol Then, when I realized I was getting close to the end, I tried to slow down because I did not want it to end. This book did not disappoint. It was very good and engaging. 200+ pages

Poor Tracey had so many things coming at her in this book that it was hard to keep up.  She gets into the  Academy and things start off badly.  Once she meets Nixon and Carter she realizes that it is going to take strong will for her to survive what they are going to throw at her.  When Tracey learns secrets from her past, she is left shocked and trying to figure out what in her life is real and what is made up.  After things come to a dramatic head with Phoenix, she is left almost broken and struggling with her feelings.  She has developed quite a bond with Chase and we will see where it goes in book 2.  Very well done and interesting enough with the plot twists to keep me reading.

Wow!  I wasn't sure what to expect with this book, but what I ended up with was a whole lot more than I'd bargained for.  In fact, the only criticism I can come up with is that I'm not sure how "realistic" the plot was.  But then, I know nothing about the mafia world, so maybe the plot was entirely plausible.  All I know is that I totally bought into the entire plot and loved this book.  I loved the characters and I loved the story.  I even loved what looks like it might be a small bit of a love triangle...which is usually something that I despise. I guess if there was any one thing I found to be incredulous, it's that the main female character - Trace - didn't seem freaked out enough about the idea that she was in the midst of a lot of mafia hit men and that murder was a part of their every day lives.  That's probably the only part I would change.  I felt the character should've been a bit more out of sorts at the knowledge that she was in the midst of organized crime  But otherwise, there isn't a thing I would change about this book. I normally despise books that end in a cliffhanger, but not this time.  This time I really feel like this story has to be more than one part.  I didn't feel cheated as I normally do when I realize the story hasn't ended.  Rather, this time, I felt like the story left off at a comfortable spot, but there was just so much more I wanted to know about the characters and what happened next. All I can really say is EXCELLENT storytelling by Van Dyken and I can't wait to read the next book!

Holy hell! If you want a dramatic, high-energy mafia series, then the Elite series if for you! I was hooked from the very beginning. Trace is a country girl with a hidden past. Nixon is a very bad boy connected to her past. Their attraction and chemistry is off the charts. Nixon had me so ticked off a few times that I wanted to throw my Nook - but then I realized I'd probably break it and wouldn't be able to find out what happened next, so I held off. Drama - violence - chemistry - betrayals - this book has it all! This was my first Rachel Van Dyken book and it definitely won't be my last! I'm off to start book 2!

I was initially drawn in and interested in this story after reading the synopsis, which sort of gives of the vibe of a secret society, but is, I think, purposely vague, which made me even more intrigued as to the possibility of what and who "The Elect" were and what they were all about.  I was shocked when Tracey Rooks, farm girl from Wyoming who won the lottery giving her a scholarship to attend Eagle Elite College arrived, and she was met by the rudest, most self-centered, snobby jerks you could ever imagine.  I was also hooked because I had to know what this was all about.  I loved Tracey from the get go and found myself feeling very protective of her.  She is a bit naive, but also a bit of a spitfire, something that I think may have took Nixon Abandonato, leader of the evil welcoming pack, by surprise.  Nixon and his friends, Chase, Tex, and Phoenix were the meanest and most conceited bunch of guys, and I totally could have slapped them with their Greek-God looking selves for the way they treated Trace, but as the story progresses, there is so much more going on than meets the eyes.  The further I got into the book, and the more the mystery behind everything began to unfold, I was like a firefly drawn to a flame and couldn't put it down, especially when it began to become clearer as the book progressed just what it was all about.  In the beginning, Trace's one saving grace was Mo, Nixon's twin sister, who took her under her wing and helped her.  Nixon was one of those guys you loved to hate, the you loved, then you hated, but wanted him all at the same time because of that bad boy appeal.  He has a commanding presence and it soon becomes clear that he is in charge, of pretty much everything.  I loved Chase, he could come across as jerk at times, but it was obvious he had a really good heart.  Nixon's heart, on the other hand, was harder to see into.  Some really awful things were done to Trace, a lot in the name of protecting her, then there were also things that got totally out of hand.  As the mystery of who Trace really was, who Nixon really is, their pasts, their present, and their possible future collides, things get even messier and even more intriguing.   “He’s the spawn of Satan” she grumbled. “And you are?” She grinned and held out her hand. “Monroe, I’m Satan’s sister.”

So I first fell in love with Rachel's writing with Ruin so I had to give this book a go. I wasn't sure how I was going to like the Mafia theme but I was surprisingly pleased with it and it gave enough change to spice up this contemporary tale. I was already in tears as of chapter 1 and it only got better from there. For Trace she is a farm girl from Wyoming who won the chance to go to a prestigious elite school. When she arrived she was instantly bombarded with hard ass rules and a gaggle of dicks. At first I thought Nixon was the biggest douche bag but he won my heart in the end. A modern day mafia style Romeo and Juliet are Trace and Nixon. This relationship seems doomed within this world, with the family loyalties and promises but first loves are hard to break. Loved the story, loved the theme and now we are left with a potential love triangle. Argh!!!! I'm still team Nixon even though Chase is pretty awesome! 4 Mafia Loving Thumbs Up!

I got this book with absolutely no expectations. I had never heard of the book before, and I only had the summary to go on. Let me start by saying that this book was not at all what I thought it would be, just based on the summary. That's not a bad thing though! The storyline was just very unexpected. I found myself really liking the concept of the Elect, despite the fact that their group really does cause quite a few headaches and heartaches for the main character Tracey (aka Trace.) That being said, however, there were definitely times that I wish Trace had been just a little stronger. Granted, anyone would feel pressure and sadness over some of the things she has to endure, but she seemed to really let it cripple her sometimes. I wanted to see her cry less, stand up for herself, say something back to some of these people. The only one she could really do that with though was Nixon, who, at least at first, was the scariest one of them all. Then that brings me to Nixon.... I have to admit I both loved and hated Nixon...hated in the beginning, but then grew to love. He was definitely an interesting character, and I loved his badass sexiness. A guy with power, looks, and attitude... you gotta love him. I also have to give a nod to Chase. I loved that guy too. He was so caring and sweet, but also tough and strong too. I see a love triangle coming in the future. I was definitely surprised when I learned the truth behind the Elect group. That was unexpected, and a very interesting story concept. I have to admit I haven't read anything like it before. I enjoyed the writing. It was fast-paced and interesting. I read the entire book in one sitting. So despite those few little things I mentioned above, on the whole, I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be picking up the next one. I'm looking forward to seeing where Rachel Van Dyken takes the story from here.

I freaking loved this book. This is one of those that I decided to read without paying any attention to reviews or even much attention to the blurb. I requested it, Netgalley granted permission, and I started reading. I really had no clue what I was about to read. I must say, that turned out to be a very good thing. I was completely shocked at what happened after the necklace was discovered. I started off hating Nixon's guts. He was an arrogant douchebag who I wished someone would wipe the floor with. Chase was my fave. I was rooting for him to be with Trace in the beginning. It seemed like every time Nixon wasn't there, Chase was. Chase was Trace's anchor. I started off loving Trace because she was such a firecracker and didn't take any crap off anyone. I got sick of her whining and crying towards the end, but hell, I had tears in my eyes half the time, so what right do I have getting annoyed with her when it was tearing me apart? Grandpa, grandpa, grandpa. What the heck? You totally pulled the wool over all our eyes. Just some old farmer from Wyoming, my ass. You are slick dude, real slick. This story had me totally invested and I could not put it down once I started. It was fantastic. It was totally different from anything I have ever read, because I don't think I have read anything involving the mafia. I have to say I was a little sick over Phoenix, but he got what he deserved. Rachel, you have totally killed me with the Prologue for the next book, Elect, at the end of Elite. Really? You just had to do that, right? ARGH!!! Until you release it, I will be losing my mind! Looks like, according to the reviews, this is one of those you either love or don't. Not much in between. As for me, I LOVE. :)
