School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 2-4 While this book dramatizes the struggle that Elizabeth Blackwell had in becoming the first woman doctor, it contains several dates that conflict with many other sources: the year Blackwell was born, the year she entered medical school, and the year she graduated. Color pen-and-ink and watercolor drawings, along with the first-person narrative, help to make the story come alive. However, Elizabeth Blackwell: Pioneer Woman Doctor (Garrard, 1975) by Latham and Elizabeth Blackwell: the First Woman Doctor (Troll, 1982) by Sabin offer more specific and accurate information.
