All Music Guide - Heather Phares
If the soundtrack to Ella Enchanted is anything to go by, then Anne Hathaway is one of the luckiest girls in the world: she gets to be a princess in the movie and a pop singer on its soundtrack. Though the film is technically a Miramax offering, the soundtrack is downright Disney, gathering songs from the studio's stable of prefab teen pop singers, including Kari Kimmel's "It's Not Just Make Believe," Raven's "True to Your Heart," and the Beu Sisters' "Once Upon a Broken Heart." However, Kelly Clarkson out-sings them all on "Respect," which, despite its canned-sounding accompaniment, makes the most of her voice. Appropriately enough for a film about an enchanted girl who...

However, Kelly Clarkson out-sings them all on "Respect," which, despite its canned-sounding accompaniment, makes the most of her voice. Appropriately enough for a film about an enchanted girl who must save a princess, the soundtrack focuses on songs with romantic and magical themes; however, the results are mixed, ranging from Stimulator's lackluster cover of Olivia Newton-John's early-'80s gem "Magic" to Darren Hayes' version of Electric Light Orchestra's "Strange Magic," which has nearly as much syrupy soft rock appeal as the original. Hathaway is a decent singer: her duet with Jesse McCartney, "Don't Go Breakin' My Heart," shows off the pretty tone and personality of her singing. Later, she's saddled with the difficult task of covering Queen's "Somebody to Love," which is just too much song for her voice; the results sound like she's singing at a high-school talent show. Indeed, most of the Ella Enchanted soundtrack plays like a souped-up school musical, although that does give it sort of an awkward charm.

    this is awesome!!

I loved the movie, and the soundtrack is just as good! Anne Hathaway is awesome, I had no clue she could sing till I heard "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" with Jesse McCartney! Kari Kimmel is really good with It's Not Just Make Believe, too. I highly reccommend this CD and the movie!!

Can't get much better than this

Last night I watched Ella Enchanted and was instantly drawn to the music. Sure, it was semi-random, but I loved it. This morning I bought the CD because it totally rocks. I mean, I had no clue that Anne Hathaway can sing. And it's no way similar to Hilary Duff thinking she can sing, Anne really can! And Raven is amazing. And even thought I usually don't like remixes of classic songs, these are really great! I would totally go buy it if I were you.

    GREAT!

This is great. I needed to write a longer reveiw. Anne Hathaway is a great singer. She sounds beautiful on all of the songs she sings. I love "Respect" and "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing" and "Somebody to Love" along with many others. Jump5 did, however, make a horrible re-make of "I'm Walking on Sunshine" though their re-make of "Shining Star" was fantastic. Worth the money;just skip number 6.

    THIS IS AWESOME

This cd id great but not perfect there is a lot of good cds but some songs ruin the cd but i really enjoyed listining to ANNE HATHAWAY, JUMP 5, AND KELLY CLARKSON. I was surprised about anne hathaway's voice i thought it was going to be another disney singer wannabe but wow this girl actually has a talent unlike some other disney stars. If you havn't seen the movie go see it NOW its awesome and better than the soundtrack i would give this cd an 85% out of 100%.

    Enchantment of Musical Tunes

The "Ella Enchanted" musical soundtrack contains some strong quality pop tunes that are on the more joyful side. In addition, I enjoyed the eclectic range of theme songs contained in this collection such as "Respect" by Kelly Clarkson and "Magic" by Darren Hayes. Another musical gem on this cd that struck a positive chord within me is "If You Believe" by Andrea Remanda. "If You Believe" appears to be a very happy message about believing in yourself when finding the answers to making personal dreams come true. "Ella Enchanted is best to get for many who enjoy sunny music of the pop genre.

    Fun mix of music

This CD has all sorts of artists and fun songs on it that make you want to get up and dance! There are also some more inspirational songs, some are my favorites to listen to daily. The songs completely match the movie and are fun for all ages for any road trip, walk, or just listening at home on your couch.
