"Ella's Wish is a well written book. I greatly enjoyed this book."
?Katie Troyer

"Ella's Wish was a delight to read. I highly recommend it to all readers of Amish fiction, as well as to those who have not tried it before. The characters are well developed and you become part of their lives as they meet their challenges and deal with their problems. This would be an excellent book for reading groups, with the many rather controversial subjects in the story. The discussion questions are excellent."

Children's Literature - JoAn Watson Martin
Living in a brand new house does not seem to lessen Ella's sadness over the loss of Aden, her betrothed. Two suitors pursue Ella, but her heart still belongs to Aden. Her family continues to promote the bishop. Danny, Aden's brother declares his love for her, but she would feel disloyal to her friend, Arlene, who loves Danny. Ella's problems seem to multiply when her brother, Eli is seen visiting with an "Englisha" girl. Aden left money to build a new house for the two of them and she appreciates how blessed she is to live in a new house. But how will she get by with no money coming in? The entire Amish community believe that Ella is promised to the Bishop Ivan and do not hesitate to express their opinion as to Ella's choice of a husband. Bishop Miller helps out with Eli, so that convinces Ella's family to assume that she will marry him. Ella gets a strong dose of what life will be like married to the Bishop. Ivan has lost his wife, Lois, and needs someone to take care of his three young daughters. His guilt at loving Lois so much that God took her makes him consider marrying the Widow Weaver. But even his horse knows to turn around before he gets to her house. Ella wonders why the world is so complicated. Ivan preaches such thunderous sermons, but he seems nervous and shy with his motherless daughters. Ella's Wish, part of the "Little Valley" series, is a tender, loving romance set in an Amish community. The locale creates problems that wouldn't occur in the world outside their society. Some readers may be put off by so much fire and brimstone preaching, lengthy scripture quotations, and prayers. Reviewer: JoAn Watson Martin
