Children's Literature - Melissa Hower
In this story, a city girl named Eloise loves animals and is excited to go to the zoo with her Nanny. Eloise and Nanny begin by dressing for their summer trip to the zoo. A safari hat and vest are perfect for the occasion. Then, they gather all of the necessary accessories to ensure they can see the animals up close. Binoculars and a camera are a must. The pair visits all sorts of animals from all over the world. Their first stop is to see the African animals. There they see gorillas, lions, and giraffes. Next, they are off to examine Australian kangaroos and koala bears. Eloise feeds the lorries before heading to the North American animals. The two howl with the gray wolves and look for the black bear. Next, Eloise visits the petting zoo and the animal nursery. Eloise is thrilled to see so many animals, and she repeatedly asks her Nanny if she can take the animals home. Their visit wraps up with a special treat. This is a cute book with terrific illustrations. Both the pictures and the content will keep children interested in the story. This is a great book for children just beinning to read. This book is part of the "Ready-to-Read" series starring Eloise. The book is in the Level One category and offers an increased vocabulary and longer sentences for children just starting to read. Reviewer: Melissa Hower
