Overview

John Palmer hasn’t felt like a real man since he was injured during combat in Iraq. Though not content with his new life, he is mostly adapting, just like the other vets at the Lost ‘N’ Found Investigative Service. When Shannon Murphy is hired on as the new office manager, life suddenly gets a lot more interesting. Before long, John finds himself wondering if he could ever be the kind of man Shannon needs.
Shannon Murphy wasn’t really looking for love when she hired on at LNF, but finds herself hopelessly attracted to the sex-on-wheels former Marine, John Palmer. The man is grumpy and nearly impossible to work with, but his brand of masculinity appeals to her on a basic level. Soon Shannon is wondering just what it would take for John to want her the way she wants him.
When an old enemy tries to settle a vendetta against Shannon, John insists on protecting her. He moves into her house, fanning the spark of attraction into a blaze. But the danger continues to escalate. Will the connection that they’ve found survive when they’re thrust into a fight for their lives?

Meet the Author

Terminally addicted to romances, thanks to finding her aunt's stash of 'Harlequin Presents' years ago during a sleepover, J.M. Madden loves any and all good love stories. Most particularly her own. She has two beautiful children and a husband who always keeps her on her toes.

J.M. was a Deputy Sheriff in Ohio for nine years, until hubby moved the clan to Kentucky. When not chasing the family around, she's at the computer, reading and writing, trying to perfect her craft. She occasionally takes breaks to feed her animal horde, and is trying to control her office-supply addiction, but both tasks are uphill battles. Happily, she is writing full-time now. She always has several projects in the works and loves to hear from readers.

    Hello

Very good well-written 400 page book. Also, bought the book because of the donation to Wounded Warrior project. Where is book #2?

Military Romantic Suspense that easily earned ALL FIVE STARS--Kudos to J. M. Madden!

I did read the prequel to the LOST AND FOUND SERIES, THE EMBATTLED ROAD and easily gave it 5 stars, too. Having seen John (a primary character in this book, EMBATTLED HEARTS), I was really anxious to read his story. Of the three friends whose initial recovery from injuries we see in the prequel, John Palmer intrigued me the most. As encouraged by the author, I read a loaned copy of this book (as it's lending enabled on purpose) and having just finished the book, sighed with the kind of reader pleasure that says "that was SO worth it!" I may just have to buy my own copy (though I seldom read books a second time...FAR too many books out there for that). This book was THAT well-written. Yes, I caught a few misspellings, but the story was so incredibly well-done these tiny little errors were so very easy to overlook.

I found our heroine, Shannon Murphy to be the PERFECT fit, ideal match, and thus the romance (primary focus of the book) was such a rewarding read. I so enjoyed watching these two fall in love. I liked that they were both halfway in love as the story starts and the danger and beautifully crafted Romantic Suspense brings them together where the romance ignites. The romantic suspense thread really worked. I found myself not too surprised by who the players ended up being (as Madden doesn't add "fluff"--which I appreciate), but the pacing was extraordinarily well done, the suspense gradually ratcheting up until I found myself unable to put my reader down. Several really tense scenes there! I LOVED how it played out! Very satisfying resolution to the suspense thread, and even more satisfying resolution to the romance.

Sensuality Level: Wicked Hot. Sex scenes are graphic, detailed, but this is NOT erotica. It's definitely romance. There's something RIGHT about sex scenes where the characters STAY in character and it's not just gratuitous.
Language: John's a former Marine--his language is colorful, graphic, and at least PG-13....completely in character.

I'm a huge fan of Military Romantic Suspense...and J.M. Madden has won me over. 100%. I so enjoyed the prequel and this first book that I'm *definitely* getting my hands on the next in the series and will likely purchase them ALL before I've even read book #2. It was such a rewarding read that I wholeheartedly recommend it to fans of Military Romantic Suspense (who don't mind sexual content and language). ~Kristin

Loved this book!  The characters were totally believable and you root for them through out the book.  The hero is a disabled vet and the author did not sugar coat  his challenges.
I would love the author to tell me if she is going to write Aiden's story and the sharp shooter's story, please!

This story is about Shannon Murphy who is office manager of Lost

This story is about Shannon Murphy who is office manager of Lost 'N' Found Investigative Serices which was founded by 3 friends, Chad, Duncan and John.  This business is unique in that all the bosses and employees are returned servicemen who have some kind of disability (physical or mental) due to their tours. Shannon has been secretly crushing on John for 6 months and John is drawn to Shannon, too, but he doesn't feel he has anything to offer a woman since injuries he suffered in his tour in Iraq left him in a wheelchair.

Shannon is threatened by a stalker and calls John for help, so he goes right over to protect her. He moves in with her to keep her safe. John calls the entire team at LNF Investigations to help out. Living together gives the couple the chance to figure out how they feel about each other.  Shannon is pretty forward so she goes after John, but he still tries to hold back and can't accept that he has a lot to offer Shannon.

I loved this well written book. The author does an amazing job of showing us the difficulties vets have once they are back home.  She does this openly and honestly without making us pity them. The character development was excellent. John was grumpy and rude but Shannon was kind and loving.  She had to be strong too or she never would have put up with John's moods.  It was great how she was able to make him feel like a real man again even thought it was not easy.

I had no idea how bad it could be for returning vets.  This story detailed just how difficult it was for John to handle his physical disability which lead to mental issues as well. I really liked this book and recommend it.

    Insightful

Great story and series. Madden seems to have a 'scope' looking into the hearts and minds of our wounded warriors.

Ever since he was critically injured in Iraq, John Palmer has felt like half a man.  He has a hot temper and tends to drop the “F” bomb with most sentences.  While he is still in the hospital, he becomes close with to other fellow Marines who were also gravely injured.  So what will they do when they are out in the world again?  They start their own business of course!  The LNF, Lost ‘N’ Found Investigative Service!

Shannon Murphy is instantly attracted to former Marine, John Palmer.  Even though he is a pretty grumpy man and is also confined to a wheel chair, she wants him.  Now what must she do to get his attention.  Well she definitely wasn’t expecting an old enemy out for vengeance to be what ends up bringing them even closer together.  Can their new found relationship survive the danger they are about to face?

Mercy!  I fell in love with John in the Prequel.  I laughed with him, and cried several times for him.  I loved the relationship he and Shannon had in this book.  He cares so much for her but is so guarded and she is just smitten with him.  I could not put this book down and went directly when finished and bought the second one in this series.  If you haven’t read this series yet you don’t know what you are missing!  Great job J.M. Madden!  Another AMAZING read!
