Overview

Holden told Olivia it was only a matter of time before Hell came for them. After all, one doesn’t just walk away from the life he lived unscathed, but the longer Hell waited, the more Olivia let down her guard. She believed maybe happily ever after was possible—he knew it wasn’t.
But when Baker shows up beaten and bloody on their doorstep with a message, all hope evaporates. The jinn make Holden an offer he can’t refuse: convince Olivia to free them all and the jinn will fight Hell alongside them. However, if their past has proved anything, it’s that the jinn cannot be trusted. When Olivia starts hearing a voice that no one can identify and Baker isn’t acting like himself, he is forced to make a decision.
With Heaven staying hands off, Holden considers accepting the jinn’s offer behind Olivia’s back. One thing is clear, with their lives and the lives all those they hold dear at stake, something has to be done. If it were as easy as Holden going back to the jinn, he would do it in a heartbeat, but Hell wants more than his soul this time—they want Olivia’s too.

Meet the Author

MANY AUTHORS CLAIM to have known their calling from a young age. Liz Schulte, however, didn't always want to be an author. In fact, she had no clue. Liz wanted to be a veterinarian, then she wanted to be a lawyer, then she wanted to be a criminal profiler. In a valiant effort to keep from becoming Walter Mitty, Liz put pen to paper and began writing her first novel. It was at that moment she realized this is what she was meant to do. As a scribe she could be all of those things and so much more.
When Liz isn’t writing or on social networks she is inflicting movie quotes and trivia on people, reading, traveling, and hanging out with friends and family. Liz is a Midwest girl through and through, though she would be perfectly happy never having to shovel her driveway again. She has a love for all things spooky, supernatural, and snarky. Her favorite authors range from Edgar Allen Poe to Joseph Heller to Jane Austen to Jim Butcher and everything in between.

I once read a book on creative writing that said the first rule of writing fiction is to shoot the sheriff in the first paragraph. Meaning to  write something at the very beginning of the book that will hook the reader from the start. I believe Liz Schulte must have read the same book. Her characters are  immediately captivating and you can't help but to fall in love with them. She has created a world for  them that is so vibrant and full of life that every time I devour a book I want to instantly read more. In Ember, she continues with characters created in the Guardian Trilogy. Holden, Olivia, Baker, Quintus and Femi are back and as lovable as always. I think the best praise I can ever give any book is, I want to live in the world that Liz has created and I want to hang out with the characters. After all, they instantly feel like old friends.

I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. Olivia is a fallen Angel in love with Holden, as freed Jinni. She thought they were finally free, even started to let her guard down. But Holden knew that eventually Hell would come after them. The battle begins when his best friend, a shape shifter, is returned to him battered with a message from the Jinn. Will Olivia merge with her Angel and be powerful enough to save them? Who is really after her?

This book was an amazingly creative fantasy. I loved the fact that it's in modern day and these awesome characters are among us. The characters were believable and easy to connect with. The story was quite intriguing and kept me on the edge of my seat. I was really sad to see the story end, especially since it was a cliffhanger, but I look forward to revisiting Olivia, Holden, Baker, and Femi in book two, and I honestly can't wait!

It was so great reading more about Holden and Olivia, after the guardian trilogy, I couldn't wait. And they are back, as good as always. Hell is sure trying to put a number on them again. I adored Baker, He has a great humor... Holden is in this book a bit wilder, more violent. Evil vs Good strong story and characters. Love it so much almost read it in one sit. Bring on the next Liz! I want to read more!

I received a copy of this book for a honest review.

Ember and the Jinn Trilogy as a whole are reads I'd been long awaiting ever since the end of the Guardian Trilogy. They both feature the same characters (Olivia, Holden, Femi, and Baker) along with some not so new faces. Hell strikes back, secrets run in abundance, and Olivia hears voices. It's a tantalizing intro into the new trilogy that left me craving more.

I enjoyed revisiting with Olivia and Holden. They've grown a lot since Guardian Trilogy, but they're still one of my favorite PNR couples. Neither is perfect, yet they're perfect for each other. At the same time, reading Baker was interesting. I enjoyed his witty sayings, but I'm still not certain I really got to know him on the same level as Olivia and Holden. He's the type that intruiges me, but is it because i don't know so much?

Regardless, another beautiful story will rest peacefully on my iPhone, and I am eagerly awaiting the next book.

    Highly recommend

In Ember we are reacquainted with Holden, Olivia and Baker and we immediately want to know more about them. They feel like old friends and we fall into their world with gusto. Cheering for the good guys and jeering the bad through to the end of this roller coaster and of course, holding our breath until the next installment. Fun book!!!
