Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Higgs, bestselling author of Bad Girls of the Bible, offers a sweet but substantial gift book about accepting God's grace and leaving the past behind. Higgs's personal history includes "a lost decade of sex, drugs, and rock 'n 'roll," and though she doesn't focus on her past, she writes believably as someone who struggled with accepting grace herself. Each chapter contains multiple Scripture verses strung together with comments she's received from readers (such as, "I don't feel I am worthy of having God forgive me of my sins and weaknesses. I feel like a failure.") and reflections from her own life. She walks through several stages of receiving grace-including doubting that grace could be possible, confronting sin, forgiving yourself and repenting. Readers will feel at ease with Higgs's down-home style that's never preachy. Higgs aims to provide "a field guide, tracing a well-worn footpath from doubt to belief, pointing us away from shame and toward hope." She succeeds, and readers who are looking for more insight from this former Bad Girl will be very thankful. (Sept. 19) Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
From the Publisher
Praise for Embrace Grace

“Liz Curtis Higgs is a gifted writer and poet who understands the human heart with all its complexity, beauty, and pain. She also understands the heart of God. Reading this book will make you want to let go of anything that keeps you from his loving embrace. I recommend it highly.”
–Rebecca Pippert, best-selling author of Out of the Saltshaker & Into the World

“For every woman who has ever felt as if she were standing on the outside looking in, welcome home! In Embrace Grace, Liz Curtis Higgs gently addresses the lies that keep us from everything our hearts so desperately need: love, forgiveness, and most of all, acceptance. Don’t stand out there shivering in the cold! Christ stands with open arms waiting to love you back to life.”
– Joanna Weaver, best-selling author of Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World

Embrace Grace isn’t for perfect, churchy women who have never made a mistake. It’s for women who’ve blown it and are willing to investigate a better way to live. Liz Curtis Higgs is vulnerable, authentic, honest, and compassionate. Embrace Grace provides answers, truth, and a map that will take you from shame and guilt to a hope-filled future.”
–Carol Kent, author of When I Lay My Isaac Down

“Leave it to Liz Curtis Higgs–a master writer, storyteller and Bible teacher–to give us a book with a heavy hitting message wrapped in a cloak of warmth that melts even the coldest heart. Liz tells the story of grace, forgiveness, and restoration that every one of us–the wounded, the hurting, the seeking–needs to hear. This book must be read slowly and on bended knee, for each page is steeped with truth that will cause you to more passionately embrace the Father, embrace forgiveness, and Embrace Grace.”
– Priscilla Shirer, author of He Speaks to Me

“Like the fingers of an expert masseuse, Liz kneads away the knots of guilt, fear, and regret we all have. Embrace Grace speaks life-changing truth to our hurting, anxious souls in a uniquely winsome way.”
– Dee Brestin, best-selling author of The Friendships of Women

    Sample too short

The sample was 20 pages - 18 of which were title page, table of contents, etc. which only left one page for the actual book. That was too short to tell whether I wanted to buy the entire book.

    Powerful book...

Embrace Grace is one of the most encouraging and insightful non-fiction books I've read that addresses the forgiven life that can only be found in Christ. Liz discusses a multitude of topics based on e-mails she has received from women who were hurting and needed assurance that their Heavenly Father loves them and has forgiven them. I received comfort within the pages of Embrace Grace that I, too, am not exempt from God's ever-reaching power and all-encompassing grace. For me the most powerful chapter was 'Embrace Sin.' What? You ask. Embrace sin? Here's the subtitle. 'How could he love me after all I've done?' This chapter includes both before and after salvation. It still gives me goosebumps and I get a little choked up when I think about it. Very powerful. A must read. Need I say more?

I am going through a struggle to forgive....mostly myself. I have read and reread Embrace Grace at least a thousand times. In fact, the cover is coming off. I take it to church with me and read. The comfort of reading what I am feeling in the house of the Lord makes it even more difficult. I usually end up crying, hoping I can feel forgive and let it go. I wish I could Embrace Liz although my life is not the BAD girl type.
The book brings me comfort and understanding.

Liz Curtis Higgs once again knocks it out of the ballpark.

Reviewed by Lori M for Readers Favorite Liz Curtis Higgs once again knocks it out of the ballpark. When Liz writes, it is like she is speaking directly to the reader and knows each one’s fears and concerns. Self-described as a girl who has been hurt by almost everyone in her life, Curt-Higgs helps others take of their “I’m a bad person” coats and embrace grace, doubt, faith, truth, sin, forgiveness and repentance. Who among us hasn’t wondered how God could love us after all the 'bad' stuff we’ve done? All we need to know is that God has forgiven us and loves us, which should be more than enough for anyone. Liz helped me understand what grace truly means. I have struggled with its definition, but she perfectly explained it when she said it is simply God’s love. Liz is known as an encourager and she certainly provides tons of it in this book. Sharing her own story as well as stories of other women who have written to her about their overwhelming feelings of guilt, Curtis-Higgs shows us that we don’t have to feel as if we don’t belong anywhere because God can use us, as broken and imperfect as we are, for His glory. One warning though; if this is the first Liz Curtis Higgs you read, once you have finished, you are going to want all of the other dozens of books she has written. Yeah, she is THAT good. Thank you, Lizzie, for showing women what God wants for their lives and the gift He has waiting for them.
