There are nine realms that exist in a parallel plane to nine major cities in North America. Mastyr Vampire Gerrod, of the Merhaine Realm, couldn't figure out his attraction to the human, Abigail Kirkland. After some strange shared incidents, they seek the help of Vojalie, a very powerful fae. The information they find forces them to make some extremely difficult, life altering changes.
The only problem I had with reading this book, was that it was over too soon. What an amazing world this author has introduced me to! Very large, very sexy Mastyr Vampires, each not actively looking for but finding their Blood Rose. A gifted woman that can single handedly meet the blood-needs of a Mastyr Vampire. A sort of mating ritual. In this book, it's Abigail and Gerrod. Abigail has a bakery on earth and is opening another in the Merhaine realm and is partnered with an elf. At the same time this crazy mating ritual is happening, they're fighting the Invictus. It's all a lot to explain but definitely worth taking the time to understand. This is a brilliant twist on the good vampire and bad vampire story line. I loved it and I can't wait to read more.

I liked the idea of the parallel fantasy realm populated with different kind of creatures, but still connected to the human world, in which the story takes place. The simple fact that other creatures than vampires and humans take part in the general story gives an interesting side to Embrace The Dark. The world described is richer than what happens on the pages, mostly because as a novella, the story couldn't broach every aspect of races, politics and society. I hope that the other books in the series approach aspects that weren't fully developped in Embrace the Dark.
The general plot is satisfying in itself, while making way for a bigger story I expect will be furthered in following books. The lead characters are pretty classic, with a lonesome, brooding, powerful vampire and a headstrong, independent yet caring woman. I liked the relationship between Abigail and Megan, since I don't see much of that kind in my reading.
The story has the flaws of a first of series, in which the world must be built and explained enough for the reader to understand what's going on, but the ideas are interesting. I think the series should be more and more enjoyable with every new book.

This was a pretty interesting book. It was a little hard to get into, but once I finally settled in, it got pretty darn good.
With this being the first in the series, there was a lot of explaining, which I didn't mind one bit. It helps you understand the world more, however there were somethings that I wished were explained a little more.
There are nine realms and those realms are attached to major cities here in the USA. These realms are where all kinds of creatures, fae, elves, vampires, trolls, etc. Each realm is ran by a mastyr vampire. These vampires you could say are like the president, they care for and fend for and take care of those that live in their realm. However being a mastyr has its draw backs, they hunger, always hunger, almost always starving for blood.
There are myths about what are called Blood Rose and not everyone knows anything about them, they are that rare and they haven't been around for a very long time.
A blood rose is someone that can stave of the blood starvation of a mastyr. They are the one person that can develop enough blood to give a mastyr what they are always in need of. Gerrod, mastyr vampire of the Merhaine Realm has finally met his and it down right pisses him off that she is human.
This story moves rather fast, due to its short length, which means it doesn't have all the drama or drawn out scenes that take forever to resolve.
I can't wait to jump into the next one.

An Excellent Novella Contemporary, Paranormal, Romance
Flagstaff, Arizona & Merhaine Realm
This is a world of blood-starved mastyr vampires and the rare women that can satisfy their deepest needs.
Gerrod, is the mastyr vampire of the Merhaine Realm. He never thought a human could satisfy his blood-needs. Abigail is not ordinary by any means. Gerrod is stunned by her telepathic ability not to mention the richness of her blood. Though her human DNA makes her unacceptable as a mate. Gerrod doesn’t know how to turn her away when she is the only one that can satisfy his blood-starvation for the first time in a hundred and fifty years. Abigail wonders if she will succumb to the temptation that is Gerrod and give herself to him even if he is a vampire.
Abigail’s human life is suddenly turned upside down when the Invictus, the enemy of all realm-folk, attacks a fae wedding. Now Abigail has to decide if she has the courage to pursue the path she finds herself on and that means giving herself body and soul to a mastyr vampire. She has to decide if she is going to return to her normal existence in Flagstaff or if she will embrace the dark.
This is another unique take on vampires by an author that is proving to write stories that pull the reader in and doesn’t let go until the very last page. This makes for a story that is fun and different and takes a genre and makes it fresh for readers. The story also proves to be a fast read as the reader will not want to put it down until the full story has been unveiled. It will also have readers wanting to read more about this unique and different world. This is definitely worth check out.

Another great chapter in Ms. Roane's "Realm" series about a Mastyr Vampire , a Ruler of one of the Realms, who desires a human woman and fights tooth and nail against the attraction not realizing she is his "Blood Rose"! This story encompasses witty dialogue, beautiful descriptions of hot winged men who can use their teeth to capture your attention and your heart and battles that make you cringe, sweat and then cheer!! Love this series and can't wait for more!! Copy gifted in exchange for an honest review! Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Embrace The Dark is just WOW! Caris Roane’s ability to create alternate worlds/realms/dimensions without make them sci-fi is amazing. The way she comes up with ways for characters to link, bond or mate is just unbelievable. She has this unique ability to hook you from start to finish and leave you wanting more, but not in a bad way. You can just feel everything the characters feel. How they come together. She has a way of presenting or describing different species without them seeming corny or cheesy. You truly believe these being could exist. I especially admire how she can describe a very sexual, maybe erotic love seen. Kudos to Caris Roane.

Gerrod, mastyr vampire of the Merhaine Realm has the weight of the world on his shoulders. Responsibility for his domain zaps the love of life right out of him. Who would have ever guessed a human cupcake baker could add a little spice and happiness to the uber serious vampire?
Abigail of Flagstaff, a human cupcake bakery owner Arizona has enjoyed working in the Merhaine Realm for a year. She’s teased and done everything she can think of to get Gerrod to ‘lighten up’.
As the story unfolds, Abigail and Gerrod’s lives are thrown together. Both follow their tendencies of putting themselves last, and thinking about the greater good.
The twists and turns abound, and you are engaged with a couple that need to realize that their happiness isn’t tied to their selflessness. Sooner or later, you have to go after and take what you want with wild abandon.
The second book in The Blood Rose series continues to be as intriguing and captivating as the first.
Ethan, mastyr vampire of the Bergission Realm is committed to ruling and protecting his realm with single mined intensity and he doesn’t have time for complications, especially with their enemies up to something. Samantha’s life takes on new meaning when she discovers she is not only half human, half fae, she has a surprising level of power and she is apparently a Blood Rose.
The author continues to capture the imagination of the reader with this unique paranormal world and compelling characters. The author conveys the emotions and personalities of the characters in realistic detail that connects the reader to the story and makes them believe they are part of it. I could actually feel the turmoil of these two characters as they fight their destinies.
The actions scenes are energetic and intense and the plot is fast paced and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. The heat between the Ethan and Samantha radiates off the page and the sex is hot and steamy. Add in the mystery of solving the events of the past and how they connect to the present and you have a very entertaining read from beginning to end. I will be looking forward to reading the next adventure in this series.
