All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Maxwell's ambition was one of the appealing qualities of his debut, Urban Hang Suite, especially since very few of his contemporaries were attempting to expand the boundaries of contemporary R&B. On his second album, Embrya, Maxwell reveals his desire to make deep, serious music. He wants to be so much more than just another soul crooner and, to be sure, he does have a remarkable voice and can write really good modern soul songs, despite his tendency to think that's not enough. As it stands, Embrya still has its promising moments despite sometimes obscuring the singer's gifts.

    OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!

I love this album because it is creative and stretches boundaries. I describe the album as lush, full of texture, layers, themes, and rhythms. I always found myself drifting blissfully away from reality!

    Understimated Talented Brotha

It would take me all day to let others know how I feel about Max. Maxwell has a way of inspiring me with his music, he is not only talented but intuitive with his soul and not afraid to show it. Maxwell has a way of expressing his love and experiences with others, I know I can relate to what he's saying. Maxwell is absolutely magnificent from his looks, to his music and the way of his soul.

    Off The Chain

I am a great fan of Maxwell's. This album is awesome from beginnning to end. It is capitivating, mellow, smooth, and so much more. This album was not given its just do in the industry because it doesn't fall into the typical mainstream category. Anyone willing to open their mind and appreciate good music, will agree that this is truly a work of art. I can listen to this album over, and over, and over again! A definite must have.

    Maxwell...Enough Said

There is no doubt about it, Maxwell's latest is the current greatest of his work. He combines that soulful sounds of the old school, mixes it with the grooving-funkiness of Prince and Sweetback, then adds the spice that makes the women go wild! Every song on this album is worth listening to. Not once have I ever skipped a song to get to my next favorite selection. You will enjoy this album to the hilt!!!
