Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Heidi Hauser Green
Pinkalicious is back to shine attention on another section of the color palette: green. Given Pink's princess-y airs, here the color is discussed more regally as "emerald." Still, it seems appropriate that the focus of this "green" book is the environment. Pink and her (purple-loving) brother Peter are enjoying a walk in the park when an unexpected tumble causes her beloved pink tiara and wand to break. The duo fashion a substitute wand from a stick, some vines, and an amazing-looking flower. A kiss and an endearment send what turns out to be a magic wand into the air. The siblings follow, and find it around the corner, where their "favorite park" has become a garbage dump. Figuring out how to use the wand's energy, they turn garbage into a series of progressively impressive treasures—twittering birds, a play castle, a beautiful outfit, a boat mobile, and eventually a "greentastic garden." The wand breaks apart in the wind, causing Peter to despair: "We can't make things happen anymore!" Pink reminds him that with the seeds around them, they can "make the entire world emeraldalicious!" Readers will be eager to find (and plant) their own magical gardens after reading this light-hearted take on garbage, recycling, and green spaces. Reviewer: Heidi Hauser Green

K-Gr 1—Popular Pinkalicious and her brother visit a park, only to discover that it has become a garbage dump. The magical princess creates a wand from a stick, kisses it, and proceeds, with verse, to gradually transform clusters of debris into lovely things-birds, a castle, fancy dress, and a boat mobile. The place is finally a glorious garden, but the magic wand disappears into the wind. Pinkalicious promises that the seeds and love they have left will make the entire world "Emeraldalicous." Kann's mixed-media illustrations are brimming with color and detail, the latter perhaps an occasional detriment. Fans will continue their dedication, and teachers may choose to share this for recycling encouragement.—Gay Lynn Van Vleck, Henrico County Library, Glen Allen, VA

We just bought this book today because we have a couple of the other ones and we love them so much. My daughter is 4 and this book just wasn't as good as the other ones. It was a little hard to follow with not much of a storyline. And once we were done I had to explain what the whole thing was even about.

This was such a fun book to add to my collection and now I hope to own all of the ‘licious books.

“Television, towel, and a tassel. I’m a prince who loves his castle. Please make me one without a hassle!”
This book is about a little girl who thinks she is a princess and has a very big imagination. Her brother and she are on a walk when she falls and breaks her tiara and wand. They make a new one out of flowers and vines. Suddenly the wand flies away. They stumble upon an area that is covered in garbage and a tree that is dying. With a little bit of magic, they turn the garbage into stuff that a princess would have, like a throne, and then with a wave of her wand, flowers started growing where it was clean. She uses the garbage to make other items for her brother and her.

This book was so colorful and the castle made out of garbage was excellent as you could see all of the different items used, like spoons and cups. If you haven’t read this book before, don’t wait any longer!

Pinkalicious and Peter find out that their favorite park is cove

Pinkalicious and Peter find out that their favorite park is covered in trash! They create a magic wand that helps them recycle and re-use the junk in the park. They also plant new flowers to grow. Soon the park is Emeraldicious!

Why I liked this book – This is an awesome book for Earth Day! It gives the message; care for your environment and recycle! The illustrations are fabulous as with all of Ms. Kann’s books. I really like Pinkalicious’ cape, wand, and tiara that were made from flowers and plants. I really like how the story shows that you can re-use some of the “junk” lying around and make it into something great. I think everyone should do more of that. I think kids (girls AND boys – remember, Peter is there too!) 4+ would really like this book!
**NOTE I reviewed my own copy of this book.

My daughter LOVED this book and I also read it to my Mom. Every time I read it, I find other cute things on the page that I didn't see the last time I read it. It's a must for the bookshelf!

I love the Pinkalicious series but this is my least favorite. I felt it was was slightly disconnected from the series.
I like and get the whole going "green" concept- but I feel like the story was stretched and didn't flow like the other books.
I still like it- If you have the entire series,  you'll want to buy it. The illustrations are beautiful as always-

Pinkalicious creator Victoria Kann has done it again! Emeraldali

Pinkalicious creator Victoria Kann has done it again! Emeraldalicious is a delightful and shimsical book full of magic and discovery. When Pinkalicious and her brother Peter find their favorite park has been neglected and is full of garbage, they go to work making it a wonderland with a little love, magic and some adorable rhymes. The story is fanciful and the illustrations are beautifully detailed and delightful. This book will be another favorite in our house, and I look forward to reading it again and again with my little Pinkarellas.
