This book was heartbreakingly sweet. It's about a girl who's been neglected and abused her whole life. Then she meets a boy who shows her that love is possible.
Jenna has been battered, beaten, and broken down by her terrible excuse for parents. I really felt for her. I wanted to wrap her up and hold her. As a result of this horrific treatment, Jenna is insecure, shy, and has little confidence. She has few friends, because she's been forced to care for her family. She goes to school, work, and home. When Carlos enters her world, everything changes.
Carlos knew how to handle and treat her from the beginning. He knew to take things slow with her and build her trust. I believe he helped to build her confidence and sense of security. Once he figured out what her home life was like, he tried everything he could to get her away from it. He's truly a great guy. I loved how their relationship developed.
While abuse is difficult to read about, I felt that the overall message of the book was positive. It showed a girl overcoming some pretty difficult obstacles. Jenna gained confidence, removed herself from her bad home life, and she learned how to recognize and accept love. Jenna was definitely a resilient girl. It touched my heart.
If you are looking for a sweet love story, definitely check this one out. It will tug at your heart.

This book wasn't that great. In fact I wish I hadn't spent even three dollars on it. The storyline was great and had a lot of potential but I am not a fan of insta-love as I like to call it. I prefer books where they build on their relationship not where they know they're in love with each other when they know nothing about or each other and haven't talked before then. I also felt that there was absolutely no character development and it just could've been so much more. If you're looking for a book about a girl who's been abused and neglected and falls in love go check out Heart On a Chain by Cindy Bennett or the Breathing Series by Rebecca Donovan.

Emerge is one of those stories that will stay with you forever. You are so drawn into Jenna's story that you are right there with her feeling her pain and feeling her love. She is a strong character that knows right from wrong and lives with all the wrongs that were done to her. Despite her family trying to bring her down she laughs and smiles and keeps her spirits up and in the end something totally epic happens to her and she shines like the star she is.
Jenna lives her life on eggshells. She never knows who she is going to come home to. Her mother is bipolar and she has her different personalities and when she comes home she has to be careful not to upset her mother because there will be hell to pay. So Jenna comes home and takes care of her sister and goes to work. She avoids her mother and step father by going to school and keeping out of trouble. That is until she meets Carlos.
Jenna's English class is combined with another class and they meet up in the drama room. There she meets the guy of her dreams. She sees him across the way and can't stop staring at him. She is caught staring at him but he only smiles at her and thus the beginning of her first relationship with a boy. Carlos and Jenna start up a friendship that grows more and more each day until they have a relationship. Carlos is such a gentlemen never forcing her to do anything and never asking anything from her. As their relationship gets stronger Jenna gets stronger and realizes that she does not have to live with the abuse she has to endure everyday because she is eighteen and she can go off on her own.
Through the help of a neighbor and Carlos Jenna gets away from her abusive mother and starts a life with Carlos by her side. To me Carlos is what a man really is. He takes care of her and loves her and expects nothing back in return. He loves her and encourages her to do whatever it is she wants in life. This story tugged at my heart and I so love loved it! This is one of those romances where you say WOW can I please clone the main male character.I recommend it to everyone! Happy Reading and get some tissues because once you see how a man is supposed to treat a woman you will be crying like a crazy person!

When Jenna comes home every day she never knows who will meet her at the door: Medusa Mom or June Cleaver Mom. More times than not it was Medusa Mom. Jenna never felt the warm fuzzy love a mother is supposed to bestow upon her daughter. In fact it was just the opposite. Jenna knew what the back of her mother’s hand being smacked against her face felt like. She knows what it was like to go without dinner because her mom never made enough for her. So Jenna only had one focus…make it to graduation so she could leave her abusive home life and never look back. Little did Jenna know her life was about to change. But things always get worse before they get better.
<i>Honestly, I didn’t know what to say to him and really I was waiting for him to say that it was all too much. I was waiting for him to admit that I wasn’t worth the fight, wasn’t worth the hassle. Wasn’t worth the time and energy needed to deal with my drama.</i>
I was absolutely blown away by the range of emotion in this story. The highs were high and lows were pretty darn low. At the mere mention of the so called mother I was ready to come unglued on her arse. She is despicable and the lowest of low. But thankfully Jenna made the good in her life outweigh the bad and I believe that was what helped her get through her horrible home life. And that good would not have been possible without Carlos. He showed her there is someone out there willing to stand up for you, willing to show you real love, and willing to be your everything. He was someone that would drop everything just to come and pick up the pieces…and he did several times. He gets an A+ in my book.
I love how quickly their relationship progressed. It was kinda like how the hubs and me dated. Two months after dating he popped the question…2 months after that we got married…and here were 12 yrs, and 3 daughters later. Quick love really does work out in the end, especially when you are so in love. And the love between Carlos and Jenna was apparent.
<i>And his mouth…is lips were barely grazing the outside of my ear as he said “ I want you alone J with your mouth on mine and trust me, the last thing you will be doing is giggling."</i>
*Swoooon*
Thank you so much Lila for sending an ARC my way and giving me a chance to review your work. Now stop biting your nails with worry…the book was wonderful! I look forward to reading more of your books in the future especially if there are more Carlos like characters!

Great love story...short...but hated that the story did not end w/ certain ''people'' getting what they deserved. The ending was unfinished!!!!
