Preface

Excerpt from inside front cover:

The Seventh Edition of EMERGENCY CARE AND TRANSPORTATION OF THE SICK AND INJURED continues the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons' commitment to emergency medical technician (EMT) education. This commitment began in 1964 with a series of three-day courses. Over several years, it was decided that the popular notes that were created for the course, and routinely provided in an orange cover, could serve as the basis for a more formal text. In 1971, the first edition of Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured was published with its now familiar orange cover. From then on, it became known as the "Orange Book." Thousands of EMS professionals have used the Orange Book, either as EMT students or instructors.

Throughout the years, the Orange Book set the standard for high quality, accuracy, and a sound approach to EMS education. The Seventh Edition continues this tradition ...

---Bruce D. Browner, MD., Chairman, Editorial Board, Seventh Edition.
