Editorial Reviews

Leslie S. Zun
This book is a manual of information on enabling emergency departments (ED) to comply with regulatory issues. Reference material is provided on diskette for ease of use. The purpose is to provide a comprehensive, easy to use compliance tool to meet regulatory requirements. This is the first book of its kind to prepare managers for regulatory review. For ED managers, this objective is essential and met by the editor. According to the editor, this book is written for managers of emergency departments. The book is useful not only for ED managers but also administrators, staff, and physicians who need a good reference. References to other sources knowledgeable about the subject are used. Legal compliance -- in a broad sense, Joint Commission survey interviews, hospital accreditation standards, and reference material, are all covered. This is an innovative approach. A usable diskette of references is also provided, but, unfortunately, the rules and regulations are continually changing, limiting the long term usefulness of the material. This is an excellent reference for those ED managers who are going through some regulatory review, those with regulatory questions, and those who need assistance in obtaining reference material. The book contains an extensive sample of guidelines, protocols, and policies and procedures on disk for ease of use.
