Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Vicki Foote
Different types of emergency vehicles and machines are depicted using color photographs along with brief text and captions in this nonfiction book that is part of a series. Topics include lifeboats, police vehicles, ambulances, robots, and emergency rockets. Part of the text discusses the work of the firefighters in a city and at an airport. A four-page fold-out section shows the various sections of a fire truck and explains their uses. Interesting information is given about underwater vehicles that rescue sailors trapped in sunken submarines, and another section explains the emergency plans and equipment for astronauts in space. Words in bold print throughout the book are found in the glossary, and a list of web sites, a table of contents, and an index are included. The photographs of the workers and the emergency vehicles in action provide lots of visual interest and the written descriptions of each of the photos are clear and concise.
