Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Reginald C. Nesbitt, MD (University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine)
Description: This is a complete and thorough account of the most common uses of ultrasound for the emergency physician.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide a guide in emergency ultrasound for clinicians with varied background and training in the technique. Through the very readable text, clear sonographic photos, algorithms, and clinical pearls the objective was succinctly achieved.
Audience: The book is intended for emergency physicians, but any practicing physician who uses ultrasound for the assessment of patients could clearly benefit from this book.
Features: It presents a practical approach to the most common uses of emergency ultrasound. Each chapter, while reader friendly, is remarkably comprehensive in its scope. The consistency in the layout of each chapter and high quality sonographic representation helps retention.
Assessment: This book is certainly unique in that it provides a clinically relevant approach to such a rapidly growing field. Each chapter's objective is met while not inundating the reader with unnecessary technical details. Although simply reading the book is not sufficient for expertise, the material provides a solid foundation in understanding the subject.
