Great book. Powerful writing. Haunting words. I have read many books about abuse. This one focuses on the truly dark secrets and the struggles that continued to cling for a very long time. Dore E. Francess, M.A. Horizon Family Solutions, LLC

Meet the Author

Janie, a survivor of cumulative childhood traumas, is an expert in the field of integrative, therapeutic self-healing through expressive writing and art therapy. She has reclaimed her power through intensive creative exploration and extensive research on trauma and recovery. She is a prolific, versatile writer that takes her readers from dreams to fairy tales, down to the depths of despair and onto survival. Janie plans to share her therapeutic-writing journey with her readers by giving lectures and teaching seminars for schools and women's groups.

Note from the author:
The book of Emily was a submarine that would not be sunk. Every time I tried to sink this book it kept coming to the surface, demanding to be written, demanding to be published. I didn't want to write about the deep sadness of my adolescent years. I didn't want to look at it, or relive the pain. And I didn't want to tell on my mom or face the anger of some of my relatives who didn't want me to publish this book.

During the writing of this book I wanted to rescue Emily. But the story was character driven and she would only let me go so far. The character had a story to tell and she didn't want me to interfere.

It wasn't until I published Emily that I realized how healing it was to my inner child and that the story was written by a child who was rendered silent at an early age. I was that Silenced Child. The fictional character of Emily was the cloth and my life story was the thread that wove the tiny stitches of Emily's story.
