Overview

Follow the siren call to Emily’s magical new adventure! Can the spunky half-mer girl pass Neptune’s test—and help humans and merpeople get along?

Emily Windsnap is finally enjoying a swimmingly peaceful life on Allpoints Island, hanging out with her mermaid BFF, Shona, and her new friend Aaron (half-merperson like herself ). But their idyll is cut short when Emily learns that the Windsnaps and friends must return to their old home in Brightport, where construction projects are threatening a secret mermaid community under the sea. Neptune’s mandate? No less than an interspecies intervention to bring merpeople and humans together, a task the imperious god feels the mixed Windsnap family is well suited for. There are just a few snags for Emily, however, like dealing with old nemeses Mandy and Mr. Beeston, figuring out her feelings toward Aaron, and untangling a high-suspense mystery related to a group of legendary lost sirens. Everyone’s favorite half-mermaid is back with a splash in a sparkling new adventure her fans will be eager to get their fins on.

Children's Literature - Cynthia Levinson
This fourth book in the "Emily Windsnap" series continues the tales about Emily, a semi-mer (finned lower half when in water, two-legged when on dry land); her best friend Shona; a male interest, Aaron, and a nemesis, Mandy. The conflict in this book involves three groups whose cold peace with each other is beginning to heat up. Neptune has declared a policy of detente between humans, such as Emily's mother, and merpeople. Because of Emily's brave actions in previous stories, he assigns her and her family the job of carrying it out. It is a challenging assignment, however, because humans are threatening to destroy underwater caves, an act likely to result either in the destruction of merpeople's homes or in the merpeople's becoming a degrading circus act to entertain humans. Meanwhile some mermaids, including the principal of Emily's school, are fostering enmity between full mermaids and semi-mers. Adventure, too, heats up when a family friend, Mr. Beeston, starts acting strangely, Shona and a "Lost thing" must be located, and a magic map must be deciphered. The source of the excitement and suspense are threatening sirens, a particular disappointment to Emily, who wants to grow up to become one. The conclusion reveals the intertwined relationships among the groups and leads to their acceptance of one another. The story sustains suspense and multiple story lines. Readers who have not read the earlier books can with close attention understand and enjoy it and those who have will appreciate this back-by-popular-demand sequel. Reviewer: Cynthia Levinson

Gr 4–6—Emily Windsnap, half-human/half-mermaid, is faced with her biggest challenge yet when she learns that the mermaid village of Shiprock is about to be destroyed by bulldozers. While attempting to unite humans and merpeople to prevent the disaster, Emily discovers that whenever she and Aaron hold hands, weird things start happening, like people suddenly forget that they're not supposed to know that mermaids exist. She and her best friend, Shona, find some lost sirens but then get stuck underneath a waterfall with them with no way out. The characters are multidimensional, the book is fast paced, and the mishaps and adventures are entertaining.—Kira Moody, Hunter Public Library, West Valley City, UT

This is my second favorite book out of the four! My first would have to be Castle in the Mist though. I love the drama and especially the romance! Emily + Aaron, you go girl! I'm not too fond of the newfound friendship between Mandy and Emily, but hey, who am I to complain? Anyway, love this series and I am eagerly awaiting the fifth!

When Emily's home town is planning to build over the town of Shiprock, destrying it, Emily's family is sent with other merpeople to brings humans and mermais and mermen to stop the construction. When Shona and Emily go out exploring to find the lost sirens they get trapped with them. Aaron and Emily overcome Neptune's curse on the entrance and are able to get out. This is because they held the wedding rings of Neptune and his wife. They go to Neptune and convince him to set the sirens free under three conditions which include giving back the power Aaron and Emily have. I can't tell you what happens in the end so read it for yourself

I read the three previous books in the series, and I loved them. Each book is better than the last, good, great, amazing, and incredible. Liz Kessler had better keep on writing- she has so many fans- including me! GOOD NEWS: Emily Windsnap and the midnight sun ( book five) comes out in spring 2013 in America. Some people who wrote reviews said that you will like it if you like fantasy. Not true!! My friend, age 11, claims to not like fantasy, yet loves this!! If you like Emily Windsnap (you will) you might also like: H2O: Just add water ( a show), or you also might like Phillipa Fisher and the dream-makers daughter ( a book by Liz Kessler). Once again, you will love this book!! - Cleo Setori, Nook reviewer?
