In a time of confusion,
in the midst of grief,
they discovered something beautiful.

Julia Wortham is a strong woman with a strong faith to match. She and her husband, Samuel, rely on God, their creativity, and the love of their friend Emma Graham to provide for their family in the impoverished conditions of 1931.

But just days before Christmas, the Wortham family is faced with a terrible loss-the death of their neighbor Wilametta Hammond, who is the mother of ten and the glue that holds her family together. In his grief over her death, her husband, George, ignores the children and has no will to live. Sam and Julia step in to help, but how can they manage ten extra children when they barely have enough for themselves?

In the web of emotions and fear, Julia's faith begins to tangle. Why would God take away someone who was needed so much? How can the void of lost friends be filled? But amidst their sorrow, the grieving families discover the unexpected-a gift of hope that will shape them all

    TOTALLY INSIGHTFUL

This author has so much insight into the 'real' world of feelings and a great way to capture them with words. Anyone should first read 'Julia's Hope' for the prequel to this book -- both are swift and wonderful reads for any age whatsoever.

    Amazing and Gripping

This book was Awesome! The way she writes the desperate empty feelings after the death of loved ones was incredible and oh so true. She shows the empty feelings about life going on, as well as gives hope that indeed life does go on. I loved it, she has become one of my all time favorite authors and I cannot wait to read the rest of her stories.......

    A touching story

A very touching story about a family whose faith was tested after the deaths of a family friend, Emma, and a neighbor, Wilametta, who left behind ten children and a husband who basically gives up all hope. Their struggle to be strong and continue to do what was right by God made this book such a unique story to read.

    Pretty good...

Continuing the story begun in Julia's Hope, Leisha Kelley returns readers to the Depression era Worthham family. Life takes a turn for the worse when days before Christmas, the Wortham's neighbor, Wilametta Hammond, a mother of ten, dies. Julia and Samuel Wortham are suddenly all that stands between her children and certain death as their own father loses the will to live and care for himself, much less the children. ............ Julia finds her great faith severely tested as she tries to care for these other children in addition to her own family. Resources are already tight, and now they are at the breaking point. The flames of love and faith alone warm this ragged group as winter tightens a cold grip of fear around them. ............ ** Ms Kelley successfully paints a grim picture of the past, making readers feel her characters emotions poignantly. You get a clear reminder that times may be hard now, but they could be worse. **
