The backstory about the town, the charter, and the inheritance is convoluted and confusing as hell. I still.don't understand it or how it works. Too many questions left unanswered. Emma explains what happened to her while she was gone but never gives a reason why she didn't go to the men in the first place or why she kept their daughter from them. Also, why didn't her dads marry her mom or acknowledge her as their daughter? There's no explanation for that either. All.of that just gave me a headache.

Great story line but it wasn't put together as well as it could have been.
