Children's LiteratureThis board book from the "Baby and Blue" series features the many faces of babies and Blue. The babies express happiness, sadness, discontent, and sleepiness, as well as other typical baby emotions and states. Barrett's photography is sure to charm babies, with emotionally accessible close-ups of his subjects. Another sure hit is Blue's interaction with the featured children; he cries, smiles and yawns with them in adorable fashion. Miglis adopts the television show's interactive format, and questions readers on every page, "Who is happy?... The baby is happy." Such dialogue is sure to engage its audience. Another way in which this board book prompts the child to learn is through imitation of its babies' faces. The child can make his own faces as he is read to, or the reader can make faces at the child. This book is a pleasant, though not novel, and only flawed in its translation. Unfortunately, Ziegler overlooks the need to create a fluid Spanish edition and creates errors in pronoun agreement, as well as agreement between the text and illustration. 2004 (orig. 2002), Simon & Schuster Libros para Niños, Ages 1 to 3.
