Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - David McGee
Martina McBride takes the title of her new album seriously. EMOTION is rich in feeling and passion, and as sung by the artist who reinvented herself with "Independence Day," it offers abundant food for thought. McBride's tour de force vocals bring life to songs where women are strong, confident, and self-sufficient. McBride still believes in love, but only as a two-way street; and when she finds herself there, she gives unconditionally. No silly love songs, the work of writers like the omnipresent Matraca Berg and hot newcomer Patty Griffin underscores McBride's focus on serious themes rendered with a literate touch. No silly love songs, the work of writers like the omnipresent Matraca Berg and hot newcomer Patty Griffin underscores McBride's focus on serious themes rendered with a literate touch. Check out her tough take on Gretchen Peters's "This Uncivil War." Something of a prequel to "Independence Day," it's a wrenching look at a couple coming apart in hard times, and unsure whether the enemy is each other or forces beyond their reach. There's plenty of tenderness here too: "There You Are" finds McBride approaching the lyrics with a light, tender feel; on "Anything and Everything" she adopts a soft, caressing, and seductive tone. An album rich in text and subtext, EMOTION is a high-water mark for an artist busy being born.
All Music Guide - Maria Konicki Dinoia
Emotion is the fifth installment in a series of platinum albums from one of the most underrated voices in country music. After two years since the release of her double platinum Evolution, Martina McBride tears into these tracks showcasing the range and power of her incomparable voice. Evolution was a big-sounding record with lots of overdubbing and production. Emotion scales back musically using a very small band and the result is fresh and authentic, allowing McBride to captivate us with her resounding vocals. Aptly titled, Emotion, with lyrics like "anything's better than feelin' the blues" and "love's the only house big enough for all the pain in the world," tugs at the heart strings at times. But it's in "Do What You Do" that McBride lets us know that she's just doing what she does: "If you want to give them something different -- something to sink their teeth into -- well baby, you just do what you do."

    Incredibly Powerful

In this album Martina really shows us what she is made of. She has great vocal range, and she can hold a single note from here to next year. When you listen to this album you can hear her pouring her heart into every song. If you were to strip this album down taking away the instruments and studio production just leaving her and the mic, this album could most definitely stand on it's own. It is a GREAT quality album!!

Very interesting, shows how the artist feels

This album is pretty good over all, but I found a downfall. The artist tended to drag on with songs to long, and that loses your attention. Yet the title says it all, Emotion, is what this cd is all about.

Wow! I am loving this album!

I have put this CD on continuous play and it has been playing for about 10 hours now! Martina McBride just never ceases to amaze me. Her voice is at its very perfection on this album and every song gives her some opportunity to showcase it. From the spunkiness of
