I have lost everything.
My purpose.
My love.
My soul.
Death knocks on my door, I want to answer, but every time I reach for the handle--the promise I made her, brings me back.
So I breathe.
I live.
I hate.
And I allow the anger to boil beneath the surface of a perfectly indifferent facade.
I am broken, I dont want to be fixed.

Overview

I have lost everything.
My purpose.
My love.
My soul.
Death knocks on my door, I want to answer, but every time I reach for the handle--the promise I made her, brings me back.
So I breathe.
I live.
I hate.
And I allow the anger to boil beneath the surface of a perfectly indifferent facade.
I am broken, I dont want to be fixed.
One last trip to New York, one last chance to redeem a lost part of the mafia family. The Empire is crumbling and it's my job to fix it, my job to mend the pieces that were scattered over thirty years ago.
The only issue is, the only way to fix, is to do something I swore I'd never do again.
An arranged marriage.
Only this time.
I won't fall.
Or so help me God, I'll kill her myself.
My name is Sergio Abandanoto, you think you know my pain, my suffering, my anger, my hate--you have no idea.
I am the mafia.
I am the darkness.
Blood in. No out.

The only bad thing about this book is that it ends. Love the story between Sergio and Val and how you end up loving Sergio even more. Rachel is one of my favorite authors.

I felt like I was on an emotional roller coaster. I did not want it to end because the love story between Sergio Val was indeed epic. I read it twice and cried and laughed and cried some more. I can not wait for Enraged it should be just as exciting to read.

I love, love, love this series. It is truly one of my most favorite series ever. For those who love mafia stories and especially for those who thought they never would, the Eagle Elite Series is one that needs to be on your "must read" list. I have absolutely been blown away with each and every installment in the series, and this latest addition, Empire, is no exception. Empire is the conclusion of Sergio's story. You will have to read Elude, the first part of his story, before reading Empire. I would highly recommend starting with book one in the series, Elite, however, to get the full benefit and really appreciate the world Rachel Van Dyken has created. I really came to love Sergio even more in Empire. He has his moments when I really wanted to slap some sense into him, but then again, sometimes it's the imperfections that make someone perfect after all. Sergio is in a dark place in this book and he's conflicted about a lot of things, but he has a bright and beautiful light that helps him out of this darkness. I really can't go into a lot of detail without spoiling it, and when you read it, you will understand why. Another thing I really loved was getting to see all the crew - Nixon, Trace, Chase, Mil, Tex, Mo, Phoenix, and Bee, which was awesome. These guys may be mafia bosses, but they have also been not only family, but best friends since childhood, and the humor and banter that occurs between them is a big part of what makes this series so enjoyable. There is plenty of danger, suspense, and all the scary stuff that typically goes along with mafia stories as well, but it is the humor element that Van Dyken incorporates that really makes the story stand out like a bright and shiny star from other mafia stories. I will give you one little nugget - snow angles and whiskey - something that will make you laugh and never look at the same again once you read Empire. We get to know and meet some new characters in this novel, Val and her twin brother Dante. I loved Valentina and I think you will to, and I cannot wait to read Dante's story. I can't rave enough about how much I enjoyed Empire. As with each novel in the series, Rachel Van Dyken has exceeded my expectations as she delivers not only a story that lives up to the high standard of the previous novels, but also exceeds it. Grab this one as quick as you can.

Empire has a charming Beauty & The Beast theme throughout. It also has the voices of Luca and Andi from beyond the grave, which makes everything a bit emotional. I love Luca's mastermind abilities. I'm interested in Frank and Luca's history. Some of that is discussed as well as some point of view from Frank, which really adds to the story since readers of the series usually only hear from the younger members. The overall direction hints that a war is coming, and of course this book's storyline is a romance with a troubled start. Most of the previous couples are there, especially the EE gang, bringing their special brand of heart and humor. Some new characters come onto the scene, and the reader gets updates on some of the known cast. Readers who have enjoyed the other books in this series should like this one. If you want a mafia romance that’s isn’t really hardcore or you're a fan of stories that have a sweet good girl and a hard shell, mushy center bad boy, give this one a go. Fans of RVD know that sometimes her books almost have a YA level heat factor. Empire is more descriptive with the sexy times. It's not full blown erotica, but those parts aren't skipped over either. I liked this addition and look forward to the next book.

I couldn't have wished for a more perfect conclusion to Sergio’s story. It's not often that I find a book that I never want to end, but this was just such a story. From the heartbreak of Elude we experience the hope of Empire as Sergio’s true destiny is revealed. With so many characters to love and cherish, this series continues to go from strength to strength. Sergio’s story has to be my favourite though. With his broken heart and vulnerability, you can’t help but cry with him as his faces the cruel fate bestowed upon him. We knew his destiny had been written for him by Luca but until you witness it, you wouldn’t believe that his past could have a positive influence on his future. This really is a rollercoaster of a story which is captured in two parts. It’s definitely worthwhile re-reading Elude before starting Empire in order to remember Sergio's tragic story to date. As expected, the rest of the families play a large part in this story with the usual fun and antics courtesy of Nixon et al. The comedic side to this series is what makes it magical in my eyes and despite the dark undercurrent, the series continues to entertain with light hearted banter interspersed with touches of sadness. There was another delightful addition to the key players in this series in the form of twins: Valentina and Dante. With Dante’s story up next, it’s going to be a very long wait until summer 2017. Valentina turned out to be a breath of fresh air in this story. Her innocence is beguiling, especially in the way she relates to Sergio. If I could give this story 10 Stars I would. It captivated me from start to finish and despite the tears that I shed, the story left me yet again wanting more from this truly amazing series and the key players who live their lives through the pages of each book.
