More About This Book

Overview

Strong values, unshakable faith, excellent educations, successful careers, loving families, two cats and a dog. This was the life Jenna and Mike had built for themselves. They were living the American Dream. The only pieces missing were the children to run in the manicured yard and the toys scattered throughout the four bedroom home.

Infertility first seemed to be a minor obstacle in an otherwise peaceful existence. After four years of treatments including a series of invasive tests, two intrauterine inseminations, four in vitro fertilizations, two frozen embryo transfers and one miscarriage, the obstacle became nearly insurmountable. In this poignant memoir of their journey, Jenna and Mike recall their experience together. In an honest and empathetic series of journal entries and vignettes, this piece of writing paints the unmistakable face of infertility. More than this, they offer some pointed suggestions from their journey to help the loved ones of infertiles provide support and comfort along the way.

³This should become mandatory reading for every friend, acquaintance and family member of all who suffer from this disease.²

    Excellent book for everyone

Reading this book made me truly understand the difficult emotional ups and downs of infertility. Although I've never experienced the disease myself, I can imagine the heartbreak and heartache of not being able to conceive. When reading Jenna and Mike's story, I felt so sad for them and their situation as it seems so unfair. Yet at the end of the book, I felt very hopeful for them because of the incredible love and respect they share for one another. I appreciated Jenna's honesty, especially her advice about giving advice to infertile couples! Everyone should read the book so they will know how well-meaning comments can hurt someone so deeply. By writing about her isolation and sadness, Jenna is helping other women understand the issues that come with the disease of infertility. Read this book so that you can be a good listener and friend to those you know who are experiencing what Jenna has gone through. If you are infertile, read the book so you know you are not alone.

A Must Read for Infertiles and their loved ones

I first heard about Jenna's book through a message board that we are both members of. Jenna puts into words what I could not. Going through IVF is hard...knowing you are not alone in your struggle makes it a tad bit easier. This is a must read for all those who are dealing with infertility...whether directly or indirectly. Jenna ~ thanks for having the courage to put your story out there.

    A must read!

If you have struggled with infertility, or know someone who is, this book is a must read! This is not another typical book about the science of IVF or TTC...it is a memoir of a woman, Jenna with actual journal entries and contributions from her husband Mike. Their true story chronicles their journey to become parents...their hope, joy, loss, fears, and courage faced to get there. They did an amazing job of putting to paper all the raw emotions and suffering an infertile goes through. The last time I felt so many emotions at once I was facing my own unsuccessful IVF cycles. Anyone reading this book who has undergone any ART will surely relate. You will feel Jenna's pain and suffering no matter if you have been down this road or not. She is witty and sarcastic at times, but she is honest and soul baring as well. I found myself laughing out loud at parts...it sounds sad, but anyone who can relate to the big needle knows all the feelings that come with it. I loved that Jenna has also written this with advice for those who know someone going through this journey. It's perfect for all the people in your life who'd like to support you but don't know how, or those who don't know what not to say. I am going to pass this book around to my family and friends...I only wish they could have read it sooner in my own journey. Great job Jenna!

An Honest and Heartbreaking Account of Infertility

Written for anyone who has suffered with infertility AND the loved ones of those suffering, this book is a wonderfully written account of one couple's experiences. Trying to understand the constant cycles of disappointments and frustrations can be so difficult, but not with a book like this in hand. You can't help but feel great compassion for someone in this situation. I loved that Mike wrote his own perspective of the experiences. Hearing his words put a new spin on the issue that is too often portrayed as 'a woman's problem.'
