Library Journal - Library Journal
This is Limon's poignant first novel about the chaos that took place in El Salvador after the assassination of Archbishop Oscar Arnulfo Romero. Luz Delcano, the main character, is separated from her son in the struggle that followed the archbishop's murder. Thus, she embarks on an odyssey that will take her to Mexico, California, and back to El Salvador, where she witnesses the ravages of civil war and learns of the tragic death of her son. Originally published in English, this novel received the American Book Award in 1994 and was a "Critic's Choice" in the New York Times Book Review. Limon is the author of two other novels, The Memories of Ana Calderon (LJ 8/94) and Song of the Hummingbird (LJ 3/15/96). The present work is her first novel translated into Spanish.Jorge Gonzalez
