Overview

Will Robert and Elizabeth find in Easton the life they want so desperately?

The year is 1768. In eight years, the American Revolution will begin. Two indentured servants, little more than children, escape first from their master and then from a search party determined to turn them over to the authorities. They hope to find work and freedom in the town of Easton. But when Elizabeth is badly wounded, Robert must do all he can to keep her alive.

He's scared--and confused. He needs help from someone, an adult. But should he turn to the wild woman of the woods? Or can he trust Nathaniel Hill, the friendly man he meets in town?

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
A gripping story that tells of the hardships faced by young indentured servants in pre-Revolutionary America. Robert and Elizabeth escape from a harsh master and then elude a bounty hunter. During their flight, Elizabeth is injured and Robert struggles to keep her alive. He needs help, but who can he trust? Will the stranger Nathaniel Hill who seems so friendly, or the woman of the woods, "Mad Moll," be the ones who help? Set out as a transcript of a trial, the chapters report the story from the viewpoint of the various characters. Once begun, readers will be hard pressed to put the book down. This is a fitting sequel to Night Journeys by a master storyteller.

I did not like this book.It was boring and morbid. And it had a horrible ending.

In this exciting sequel to NIGHT JOURNEYS Avi vividly describes the two runaway felons` continuing adventure to Easton, a somewhat uncivilized village, 8 years before the American Revolution begins.
