My 8 year old LOVES these books!

I wondered if the stories would be relevent after all of the years these books have been in print, but my 8 year old son just LOVES the series. He is enthralled, now see's himself as a prolific reader and can't wait to read the next books. He is up to the 12th book now and tell's his teacher they should be in the classroom library. This series is terrific.

    Has Become a Family Tradition

I read these books as a child and cut my trivia-loving teeth on Leroy "Encyclopedia" Brown.

Recently, my third-grade daughter and I were discussing the use of logic to solve problems. The talk reminded me of these books, so I picked up the box set with the first few books in it. I wasn't sure how she would feel about them as they have been around since the 1960's, and I think every parent has had an experience with something that they enjoyed as a kid that, when revisited, should have been left to memory.

Not so with these books. My daughter loves them, and enjoys the combination of reading on her own while also trying to figure out the clues that will solve the case.

The payoff? She had the highest reading comprehension scores in her class this testing cycle.

    Fun for the entire family

We purchased this collection for my 8 year old daughter. The entire family enjoys listening to the stories and trying to solve the mysterys. My daughters 8 and 10 years old - read the stories to each other and try to solve the mystery. Teaches kids to think outside the box for solving problems.

    Great books, great price

I lived these books as a child. I bought this series so I could read them with my grandson. He loves them.

I like sharing this with my dad.

My dad shared this with me a few months ago. "I loved it" as I really like mysteries and solving problems. Some stories are challenging while others are easy. Next to the Doll People and Diary of a Whimpy Kid (all in the series) Encyclopedia Brown is my favorite.

As much fun as I remember it when I was 9 years old.

Encyclopedia Brown represented one of the most favorable series of books when I was a kid and is one of my daughter's favorite things that we share. Think of it as CSI for kids 8 - 11 years old. The typical story is 5 - 10 pages long and leaves the reader with clues to solve the crime.

The crimes are non-violent and as the stories were written in the 1960s it gives me an opportunity to share what it was like to grow up during my era.

One of the best evening reads a father can share with his daughter and still be interested.

A great book to get minds thinking, my first grader really loved it.

I wasn't sure whether this book would entertain, as well as keep my first grader's attention, but it really ticked all the boxes. The books are numbered and the numbers reflect the increasing level of ablitiy to think through and solve the mysteries, which I thought was a good way to ease new mystery readers into it. We even found our own solutions which we discussed as other possibilities, so it does allow good interaction betwen adult and child if read together.
I would definitely recommend it, as a good parent child interactive reading 1:1 exercise. It is also a great way to encourage reading, as it will motivate young readers to go on to read more by themselves as well.

    Gift

I gave these to my 6 year old nephew about 1 month ago and he is already through 2 of the books. I went to the libray to get them because he calls me to discuss them and I haven't read these since I was 9 years old.
