Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Naomi Williamson
Encyclopedia Brown, a 10-year-old amateur detective, solves mysteries for his friends and helps his father, the chief of police, solve crimes. Originally published in 1972, this is part of the timeless "Encyclopedia Brown" series. These 10 short stories provide the reader with the perfect opportunity to solve mysteries using the clues that are given. Encyclopedia Brown's solution for each of the mysteries is given at the end of the book. Solving these mysteries forces the reader to pay attention as he reads, looking for a clue hidden within the story that, along with some deductive reasoning, will help provide the answer to the mystery. The reader will soon realize that nothing is too trivial when solving a mystery. Illustrated by Leonard Shortall, this is a fun book for the younger reader that can be used to encourage reluctant readers as well as readers who like to try and figure out the "who done it" of a mystery.
