Encyclopedia of African-American Culture and History, Supplement

by Jack Salzman

Editorial Reviews

Not so much an update of the five-volume 1996 reference as an enlargement, considering several topics that could not be included in the original because of space limitations. However, 90 of the 455 entries are indeed updates of the earlier articles. As with the original, most of the entries are biographies of prominent people in every sphere of activity. A list is provided of African-Americans cited in the mother work who have died since it appeared. A cumulative index facilitates the integration of the supplement as a part of the original set. Information is already accumulating for a further supplement in a few years. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
