Encyclopedia of American Silver Manufacturersby Dorothy T. Rainwater
With more than 2400 marks illustrated and brief histories and cross-references of more than 1600 manufacturers, this is the most comprehensive reference source on the subject. To compile the information presented here, the authors devoted much time over several decades researching numerous sources. These include various editions of Trademarks of the Jewelry & Kindred Trades, U.S. Patent Office records, silver and jewelry catalogs of manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers, records of companies still in business, and pieces examined in antiques shops all over the country. This fourth edition includes many new trademarks, many additional companies, and brings up to date the many changes in company ownership during the last decade.

A fantastic addendum to an already excellent work.
The Encyclopedia of American Silver Manufacturers has proved to be the most useful and informational silver reference book I have in my library. Since it is an addendum to the last American Silver Manufacturers, it has been drastically updated. For those who have seen the previous versions of this book, expect the same great attention to detail when it comes to the descriptions and marks. Colette and Martin Fuller have really added valuable insight and experience that makes this book's compilation of American Silver Manufacturers complete. So if you are truly a lover of silver or just remotely interested in it, this book is for you.
I found the additional marks a great assistance to our research. I appreciate the new digital photos of the marks. I realize that this volume does NOT include all the works from the last edition (it was getting quite bulky) and I enjoy using both.
