For this approachable and well-presented volume, editor Oh (chair, English Dept., Rider Univ.), who has published scholarly articles on Asian American literature, among other literary topics, assembled 95 contributors to write some 337 alphabetically arranged entries that describe 200 Asian American writers (e.g., Amy Tan, Carlos Bulosan, Maxine Hong-Kingston, John Okada, Cathy Song) and their works (e.g., The Joy Luck Club, The Woman Warrior). Despite the large number of contributors, the entries are similar in both the writing style and the way in which they cover their topics. Most are at least half a page long; a few run somewhat longer than a page. Appendixes include a bibliography of major works by Asian American writers, a bibliography of secondary sources, and a list of contributors. The index is complete and easy to use, with major entries in bold.
