This 14-volume set, thoroughly color-illustrated, is written specifically for adolescents as a simplified source of information on illnesses and their treatment, mental health, the body and how it works, hygiene, fitness, food and diet, medicine and drugs, accident prevention and first aid topics. Volumes 1-13 are arranged alphabetically in some 1,100 entries averaging about half a page. Longer feature articles cover such topics as beauty care and looking good, careers in health and medicine, cleanliness and health, diseases, drugs and drug abuse, infectious diseases and preventive medicine. Volume 14 includes the comprehensive index as well as a manual of first aid, a chronology of landmarks in the history of medicine and health, an alphabetical listing of famous people in medical history, a survey of national and international health organizations, and a glossary of medical terms.
