From the Publisher
The perfect balance between the latest research and age-old wisdom
Library Journal
This is one of the best books on alternative medicine available. Murray and Pizzorno, both doctors of naturopathic medicine, are respectively a faculty member and president of Bastyr College of Seattle, a fully accredited school offering a doctorate in naturopathic medicine. Combining natural medicine with modern scientific knowledge, the authors explain the basic principles of health and then describe 62 problems ranging from cervical dysplasis to varicose veins, along with suggested therapies. These include lifestyle and dietary changes, botanical medicines, vitamins, exercise, and attention to psychological factors. What distinguishes this book is that there is always a clear discussion of the causes of a disease and extensive references, many from authoritative medical sources. The authors back up their suggestions by giving the rationale behind them. Librarians can feel comfortable in offering this book to their patrons.-- Natalie Kupferberg, Brooklyn Coll. Lib., New York

This is an phenomenal piece of work that Murray and Pizzorno have put together! From this book, it is easy to see they are definitely progressive, cutting-edge health pioneers. Whether you are a beginner or an expert in the field of natural medicine or nutrition, you will find this book very insightful! In this work Murray and Pizzorno document and describe an extensive list of health conditions and how to overcome them by natural means. They also elaborate on the functions and uses of all supplements they recommend for certain conditions. Their approach is entirely holistic so they include exercise and mind-body recommendations specific to diseases. This is an extremely valuable source of natural medical information and I highly recommend this book to everyone!

I have learned more from this book about the subject of Osteoporous than any other book or article I have purchased. I was surprised to find out that not all calcium is 'user friendly'; much of it contains lead as a result of the milling process. And not all calcium is easily absorbed. This book gives information about an assortment of health problems with possible solutions. I purchased the first copy from an health food store, and the book was worn when I bought it (most likely from people using it as a reference). One thing is for sure, you will not be disappointed, Encyclopedia of Natural Medician is a wealth of information.
