    GREAT BOOK!

I have had this book for the past 12 years and I can't tell you how many times this book has saved my babies from discomfort in addition to making their lives so much healthier and happier. I would HIGHLY recommend this book. I believe in the natural way to care for my pets and my dogs have lived long and healthy lives. It has a load of information on how to care for your pet, proper nutrutian (and it comes at a fraction of pet food costs) and one doesn't have to visit a specialty store to feed their pet. Also herbal and natural remedies for ailments, fleas, skin & coat... everything you need to know! Great book!

Detailed, Endless, and a great source of information!

I borrowed this from the library, and I'd thought I'd just type up a review for those interested. This book has a whopping 477 pages (excluding the appendix and index) and gives you a great deal of natural remedies, such as aromatherapy, homeopathy, hands-on therapies, essences, herbs, healing with light and color and more. Puotinen talks about how to prepare these natural remedies, such as infusions, tinctures, etc. She also shares her own experiences, opinions, advices, and little stories that are nice to read. (especially the acupuncture story) There are a total of 15 chapters including a chapter all on a death of pets that may comfort you. It is nicely written. However, the bad part is that Puotinen does not give much details on rabbits, horses, and birds. It's mainly about dogs and cats, which is what I'm sort of disappointed at. One of the herbs, Aloe Vera, and I'm sure a few more, are toxic to rabbits and if you apply it externally, they may just ingest it by grooming it off. She does not mention horses but the only time I see it is when she says 'dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, birds' and there are no care guides on it. It feels like they're 'background animals' and they did not receive any sort of important attention. Overall, this book is great for dog and cat raisers. It has an A-Z reference of natural treatment, first aid strategies, and many conversations with veterinary healers. Puotinen believes strongly in raw food (which is not bad), and has nice guides, but if you're looking for a detailed and thorough pet care guide, I don't suggest you come running to this book because its main subject is natural remedies. I recommend this to people, useful and handy.
