Finally, the ultimate Encyclopedia of Perennials

The gardening world has been waiting a long time for a truly fine and comprehensive encyclopedia of garden perennials. Finally, finally, it is here. This is an extraordinary book, written in masterful yet easy language without all the technical jargon, detailing nearly 7000 plants (the cover says over 5000, but that's well understated). Even if you are a beginner, you can start with this book, and if you are highly advanced, this is also an absolute must. Besides all the encyclopedia entries, there are also plenty of boxes on many pages that give you fantastic tips and details, such as how to cut and dry peony flowers, boxes on all the different types of irises, untangling taxonomic tangles, on spider mites, how to make more perennials by dividing, on plant fashions, on invasive plants, on understanding garden orchids, and too much more to mention. The pictures (there are thousands) are large and colorful, and besides the plant portraits there are pictures of good plant combinations. Editor in chief Graham Rice is a well-known plantsman and wonderful writer, and his touches shine throughout this wonderful book. It's huge and heavy and essential for everyone who loves gardening. Don't miss this book. It's fantastic.

    BEAUTIFUL PICTURES, EXCELLENT DESCRIPTIONS

GREAT HARDCOVER BOOK WITH OUTSTANDING DESCRIPTIONS OF MANY DIFFERENT VARIETIES OF MANY PERENNIALS BUT NOT ALL THAT ARE VERY COMMON IN WESTERN NEW YORK. I WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE SEVERAL LOCAL PLANTS BY THEIR COMMON NAME. PERHAPS BECAUSE THE BOOK APPEARS TO BE WRITTEN IN GREAT BRITAIN AND THEIR COMMON NAMES ARE NOT OUR COMMON NAMES.

ALL IN ALL, AN EXCELLENT RESOURCE AND COFFEE TABLE BOOK
