Meet the Author

DENNIS SHOWALTER is a professor of history at Colorado College specializing in modern European history and comparative military history. He was president of the American Society for Military History from 1997 to 2001 and joint editor of War in History. In addition, Showalter is an advising fellow of the Barsanti Military History Center at the University of North Texas and 2013–14 Academic Fellow with the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies in Washington, D.C. He has previously taught at the United States Air Force Academy, the United States
Military Academy, and the Marine Corps University. He has written extensively on the wars of Frederick the Great, the German Wars of Unification, World War I, and World War II. He was awarded the Samuel Eliot Morison Prize for Lifetime Achievement in Military History in 2005. He lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
