When you purchase a new Brutal Truth album, you know exactly what lies ahead of you. Namely, the boundaries of extreme metal being pushed to the max. And expectedly, the lads don't disappoint with their sixth studio effort overall, 2011's End Time. Sure, grindcore is one of the most one-dimensional and predictable metal subgenres on the face of the planet, but you have to respect Brutal Truth's unflinching allegiance to the genre, as they're still growling and riffing at the speed of light. As with other grindcore acts, the songs fly by at a rapid pace (a total of 23 tunes comprise the track listing of End Time), and include such crafty song titles as "Simple Math," "Fuck Cancer," "Warm Embrace of Poverty," and "Echo Friendly Discharge." As far as attempting to differentiate one song from another, good luck, as melody and "contrasting textural sonic shades" are out of the question on this release. Go ahead and inspect any of the album's selections, and you'll find a band who succeeds in matching the fury of its preceding track, which is certainly no mean feat. Individual standouts? Almost impossible. But one track that certainly stands out from the pack is the album-opener "Control Room," and that's only because it is 15-plus minutes of squealing feedback and white noise. Perhaps End Time can be best summed up by borrowing a song title from Slade: "Cum on Feel the Noize." ~ Greg Prato
