Overview

Psychotherapist Letty Whittaker, a professional secret keeper, has a secret of her own. When one of her clients slips free from an abusive boyfriend, Letty becomes the target of his violent rage. Wayne invades Letty's life, slithering his way past the barriers erected between her personal and professional lives, leaving gifts of dead rats, mutilated dolls, and freaky Shakespearian sonnets. Worst of all, Wayne uncovers Letty's deepest shame, infiltrating her AA group and threatening to expose her to the state licensing board.

And then--good news--Wayne is murdered. The bad news? The police suspect Letty. Worse yet, the sonnets and bloody souvenirs keep coming. Someone else has been watching Letty. Someone eager to drop bodies at her feet like a cat offering dead mole trophies to his mistress.

Someone willing to kill again.

Lois Greiman
The Enemy We Know is an intriguing, funny, and moving story peopled with characters you will remember long after the last page. If Letty lived in my neighborhood I'd buy her a virgin margarita and talk about all the people we know who are just as odd as we are."

Book one of a series about a recovering alcoholic social worker

Mystery, decent length, murder, other assorted violence, some cursing, no sex, but alot of thinking, wanting and talking about sex. Editing is okay, but not perfect. Lots of AA meetings. Heroine is a recovering alcoholic, social worker, who is worried about her employment. Some off beat humor. I enjoyed this read. Decent length. Good plot. Adults.

For the longest time about the identity of the stalker. Really good read. I can't wait to read the next book. I am super picky in mysteries and this author has gained one more fan.

    Fun

The main character is smart, fun and just flawed enough to drive you crazy

    A good, quick read!

    Awesome read!

This story held my focus all the way through. Not many typos; the ones that I found didn't pull me out of the story. The AA groups were not too much. They added depth, substance, and a not-so-perfect life outside of work.

    Hated the ending

I really enjoyed this book until the end. I had figured out the villan before it was revealed but it didn't lessen the enjoyment and not rthe reason for the on-star review. I loved the main character and her self-talk was hilarious most of the time. I gave this book one-star because I was VERY disappointed in the ending; abrupt and unsatifying. Of course, I didn't know this was the first in a series, so maybe it is an author's ploy to get me to read the next installment. The ending made me angry enough to not want to reward her by getting the next book.

Would you want Letty as your counselor?

The main character is so superficial in her character judgments that it made me feel sorry for her clients. Her main interest in her boss is not his character.... it's his butt, for crying out loud. Personal peeve: adressing God with a little "g". Yikes. This author has above average writing skills, hence the two stars. Guess l need to wash out my mind with a couple of sonnets.

    An alright read

Had the stalker pegged halfway through. The first half of the book is "I'm a recovering alcoholic." and the second half is "I'm a super sleuth!" Lettie makes some really terrible decisions in regards to knowing when to call the police. Finished it, won't read it again.

Starts off good but gets dumb

It started really good, I was starting to like it even though the main character is a idiot. I stopped reading when she kept accusing her own boss as a murderer and not going to the cops. If you like annoying stories then this is for you.
