Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Amie Rose Rotruck
In the modern world, producing energy is vital for human survival. Humans use energy to heat their homes, purify water, and process food. There are two major problems with the way energy is handled today. First, one of the most popular sources of energy, fossil fuels, is a finite resource. Eventually this energy source will run out and alternative sources will have to be used. There are many renewable energy sources: wind, sun, water, waste, and biofuels (fuel from plants). By developing the methods used to convert these resources to energy, we can eventually develop a virtually infinite supply of energy with a minimum of pollution. Whatever the energy source is, everyone can help conserve energy by turning electrical appliances off when not in use, insulating their homes properly, and choosing bikes or fuel-efficient vehicles for transportation. John Stringer does an excellent job of describing the various sources of energy and how the world can become more energy-efficient. Part of the "Sustainable Futures" series.
