Overview

Miranda Carson can't wait to return to England for Christmas and to be with her boyfriend, Ian. She has spent a lifetime yearning for a place to call home, and she's sure Carlton Heath will be it, especially when a hinted-at engagement ring slips into the conversation.
But Miranda's high hopes for a jolly Christmas with the small circle of people she has come to love are toppled when Ian's father is hospitalized and the matriarch of the Whitcombe family withholds her blessing from Miranda. Questions run rampant in Miranda's mind about whether she really belongs in this cheery corner of the world. Then, when her true identity threatens all her relationships in unanticipated ways, Miranda is certain all is lost.
And yet . . . maybe Father Christmas has special gifts in store for her after all.

Are you lover of Christmas, an Anglophile and happen to be a Robin Jones Gunn fan as well? Well this book is perfect for you then. If you've always wanted to experience a British Christmas but funds are tight, this is the next best thing. I could totally picture myself in England, driving in the small town, seeing the play and having tea. The details in the descriptions are one of Robin's trademarks, to actually have the reader feel like they are experiencing the story. I think the British Father Christmas is so more regal than our Santa Claus. I loved the selflessness of Mark and Julia and the hospital kids. You can't learn more about the true meaning of Christmas than that! Learning more about Miranda's story was wonderful. I'm glad that we find out more about her new family and their steps to accepting her. Reading the first book in the series, Finding Father Christmas, is a must because it goes into detail more of the storyline about Miranda's past. The first book is short and sweet just like this one so it's possible to finish both books in one day. You are guaranteed to get into Christmas spirit after reading these no matter what time of the year. I really hope there will be at least one more book in the series. It's just simply delightful.

My daughter and I read this together as our Christmas book to read. We were captive from the first moment to the last! Loved the English setting and the characters! Happy Christmas to all!

This Christmas novella is a gem. Written in first-person narrative, this romance novel of love and forgiveness is somewhat predictable but demands a tissue box be nearby. A unexpected parallel is drawn between the story and the nativity. A good Christmas read.

Enchanting¿
In the first book of this series, Finding Father Christmas, Miranda Carson travels to England in search of answers. She always wanted a place to call home and unconditional love. She finds that perfect love in Jesus Christ. In Engaging Father Christmas, Miranda eagerly returns to England. She and Ian are in love, and she suspects she will receive and engagement ring for Christmas. Things look bleak when the family matriarch refuses to bless their union.
This is one of the best Christmas series I have ever read. Robin Jones Gunn is a talented author. Last year I reviewed Finding Father Christmas. I loved the story. When I saw Engaging Father Christmas, I could hardly wait to delve inside. The cover of this enchanting book is warm and inviting. The plot is Christian romance. The characters are delightful. Fans will be sorry if they miss Engaging Father Christmas.

Warm and engaging only begin to describe characters Robin Jones Gunn brings to life on the pages of this book. The setting, a cozy corner of England, adds a subtext of tradition to the tale. Engaging Father Christmas is a story of love, redemption, and finding home¿perfect for giving to all the readers on your list this year.

Raised by a single mom in San Francisco Miranda Carson had always wanted a loving family, but never had one. When she learned she has paternal relatives in England, she visited them (see FINDING FATHER CHRISTMAS). Now with Christmas coming, she looks forward to spending the holidays with the warm caring Whitcombe's at Carlton Heath accompanied by her boyfriend Ian, who plans to propose to her there.

While in England their plans are disrupted when his father is hospitalized and his family opposes their marriage. Whereas Ian is going home to be there for his dad, Miranda must choose between returning to a lonely existence in the States in which his family are not even tepid about her and staying in England with people who treat her as a beloved relative. She also feels guilty over not revealing who she is as the daughter of their much-loved and adored the late Sir James as she does not want to destroy their image of her dad.

This is a terrific engaging inspirational tale with a strong cast on both sides of the ocean, but totally owned by Miranda who has difficult decisions to make including obviously returning home or not and revealing her identity. The sequel to FINDING FATHER CHRISTMAS is a delightful holiday saga that engages the audience from the onset with its uplifting tale of making new Yuletide traditions.

Perfect for : Personal reading, Book Club reading, GREAT Gift Book (Note: the book does include discussion questions at the end)

In a nutshell: I think this is my ALL-TIME favorite holiday book (especially when combined with the first book!). In book 2, it is one year after Miranda has found her father's family in England. She faces all-new challenges in book two, as she hopes to gain the acceptance of her father's wife, while hoping to cement the future of her relationship with Ian MacGregor. This book is just as wonderful as the first. I highly recommend both books, especially with the upcoming holiday season. These are great reads, and would make great gifts!

My Review:
I absolutely loved both books in this series (Finding Father Christmas, Engaging Father Christmas)! It was a fast read for me that made me feel warm and peaceful, with a very satisfying ending. I highly recommend both books for personal reading, book club reading (there are include discussion questions) and as books that would be great for gifts!

Characters: The original characters from the first book are back, with more emphasis on Ian MacGregor. Mark plays a more central part in this book, and shows how grown-up he is becoming while still retaining his youth. Margaret (Miranda's father's wife) also plays an important role in this story. All of the characters are written well, and help to make the story pull together and flow well.

Story-Line: The story-line in both books was easy to follow and very enjoyable. Now that Miranda has a family and friends to call her own (and a long-distance boyfriend), we see how the characters (and her faith) are "engaged" in this book. There are many touching scenes in this story, which help to keep the reader "engaged."

Readability: As with the first book, this was an enjoyable, easy read - only taking a few hours to read. I found it hard to put the book down once I started - I loved it SO much!

Overall: Another beautifully written book, that will surely be a cherished favorite among holiday stories. It is a nice easy read that could easily be shared with the rest of the family (no questionable scenes or language). readers will fall in love with the characters and ambiance throughout the book. I especially enjoyed the dark green printing in the book instead of the normal black lettering - it helped to complete the holiday feel!
