Provides an introduction to the geography, culture, food, animals, sports, and holidays of England.
Children's LiteratureThis short reference book includes information about the land, people, London, schools, food, animals, sports, and holidays. The writing is factual and straightforward and serves adequately as report material. Pictures do not reflect the multicultural blending of urban England (as does the cover), but they are otherwise supportive of the text. Endmatter includes a craft project of making a tiddlywinks game from old buttons. Twelve British English names are given to contrast with American English (crisps/potato chips), and a glossary, index, Internet and two nonfiction book sources for more information are also included. Part of the "Countries of the World" series. 2001, Capstone Press/Bridgestone Books, $17.26. Ages 8 to 10. Reviewer: Susan Hepler
