The spirit here is operatic and romantic; the madrigal in the hands of Deller and his Consort is a four minute opera, with great emotions and humor, pathos and agony.

Similar to Volume 1: Folk Songs and Ballads, this extensive set of English, French, and Italian madrigals includes recordings that are not subject to the whims of performance practice -- these interpretations are timeless, charming, and astonishingly virtuosic. Most of this material has been out of print for over a decade, and much of it was never released in the United States. From the Label
