This dictionary is very useful! I love it. I love it so much the old one is falling apart, and I had to get a second one. I think anyone learning Russian language should have this dictionary. It's very thorough, and good for figuring out which is the best word to use in the desired context. It also has a really nice section on verb conjugations and noun declensions. One of my favorite features in this Russian/English dictionary is that, unlike older ones, it has accent marks for syllabic emphasis. Gotta love that! This, combined with Barron's 501 Russian Verbs, is perfect for anyone seriously trying to learn Russian.

I love this one. It is based on American English, rather than the King's English. If you only buy one Russian dictionary, this is the one to buy.

I would absolutely recommend this dictionary as it is one of the best out there! This has proved to be one of the best buys I've made since beginning to learn the Russian language.

This dictionary is amazing. I bought it to use in conjunction with Rosetta Stone's Russian courses and I couldn't be happier. I am learning Russian a lot faster now than before the dictionary because I can look up most of the words from the Rosetta program. If you are a serious student of Russian please get this dictionary. Naturally, mastering the Russian language is still difficult, but this book will give you a breath of fresh air when you feel like your drowning in the Cyrillic alphabet.

Seriously, the best dictionary you can find. It has just about everything including slang. I lived in Russia for over a year, and I can tell you this thing saved my life! We called it the veliki slavar because it was better than everyone elses. Everyone turned to me for definitions. It truly is the veliki slavar.

I don't think there is another acceptable English/Russian dictionary, that is the only reason I'm willing to put up with the poor physical construction of the book. I'm buying my third one. What can I say, the publisher knows there's no other option, I have to have this dictionary.

I have studied the Russian language in the US (Defense Language Institute)without Katzner's, and in Kazakhstan with Katzner's dictionary, having native Russian speakers as tutors both times. This dictionary contains so much valuable material that my tutor in Kazakhstan referred to it many times as we colaborated on an English/Russian training manual for a service agency NGO. We needed a specialized vocabulary and this dictionary provided it. Anyone appreciating the difficulties of nuance involved in these two languages will greatly appreciate this book. My first one literally fell apart due to excessive use. I'm ordering a new one.

Enough said. A must-have.

This is by far the most comprehensive Russian dictionary on the market. It is a standard issue item at one of the best language schools in California! If you don't have it, you are missing a fantastic aid in your collection!

If you're an American studying Russian, this is the dictionary for you. It gives multiple definitions, ranked in use order, in plain (American) English. A lot of the more mundane and esoteric vocabulary can be found in this beauty!
