Overview

GRYPHON-Honorable, loyal, dependable . . . tainted. He was the ultimate warrior before imprisonment in the underworld changed him in ways he can't ignore. She calls to him. Come to me. You can't resist. But Gryphon will not allow himself to be ruled by the insidious whispers in his head. And there's only one way to stop them: kill Atalanta, the goddess who enslaved him. But with so much darkness inside, he can't be sure what's real anymore. Even the Eternal Guardians, those who protect the human realms and the gods, want to exile him. Finding Malea is like a miracle. Somehow he doesn't feel the pull of the dark when she's near. And he's determined to keep her as near as possible, whether she wants him close or not. But she's a temptation that will test every bit of control he has left. One that may ultimately have the power to send him back to the underworld . . . or free him from his chains for good.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"Naughton's complex setting filled with Greek gods, monsters, heroes, and the machinations of bureaucrats and villains is worth exploring, and series readers will be satisfied by the steamy sex scenes and development of an intriguing world." —Publishers Weekly

I don't usually give 5 stars, but all the books in the Eternal Guardians series have reached the high mark. This one is no different . Great story, intense from beginning to end, and as always with EN books remarkably well written. I waited for several months for this book and it was worth the wait. Gryphon tortured spirit and inner battles find a beautiful healing in Maleae. Who would have thought that she would become this incredible character and the hope and salvation for Gryphon? This is a book and a series that engages you deeply, from beginning to end. And now I wait patiently for the next book, which I hope is about Titus and the misterious red-haired woman.

Another Awesome Argonaut book! Elisabeth Naughton has done it again with Enslaved! The series drew me in with Marked (#1) and keeps getting better with each new book. I love how we are finding out more about each guardian - their strengths & weaknesses - and how the bigger picture is taking shape. Great writing, great detail, great characters, great plot. Cannot wait for Titus' story in #6!!!

My Review: Gryphon is on the edge... The edge of madness after spending months of being tortured in the Underworld. Now he's escaped, but has a new madness...a voice in his head is bringing him closer and closer to the edge. He hasn't recovered from his torture and is just not mentally strong enough to withstand any more. That's why Malea is such a miracle for him. When he's with her, the voice calms. He calms. He can find a thread of sanity. But his insanity has terrified her and she wants nothing more than to escape him....at least that's the case until she begins to realize that he's actually just like her. An outcast, alone, fighting the darkness within. Malea has her own demons within that she's fighting and she empathizes with Gryphon. This is such a great story. I always love a wounded hero and you don't get more wounded than Gryphon. He's been tortured, enslaved, and rejected. He's really at a low in his life, but he can't help being the good man that he actually is. Even when he's trying to use Malea, he is constantly trying to protect her and sacrifices himself over and over. *sigh* Eventually she sees it too and begins to fall for him...in such a good way, but there is so much standing between them. Like I said....just a great story with lots of layers of conflict standing in their way that was all expertly interwoven to create a magnificent love story. Elisabeth Naughton has created a wonderful world here full of an amazing team of Guardians who are this wonderful team of warriors. Gryphon has always been part of that team and as he's watching that fall apart, it makes this book even more heartbreaking. His standing within the Guardians has always been one of the most important aspects of his life, and to suddenly start to lose that, is earth-shattering for him. What is he if not a Guardian? Malea has never had a place in this world, until she finds Gryphon. As their relationship develops, they each find a "home" within the other. I am excited to see where things go next...I'm thinking that Elisabeth will bring us a story of Titus and the mysterious red head who is the only person he's met that he can touch comfortably. It promises to be a good one and I am definitely already intrigued. I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

I'm loving the series more and more. I can not get enough. This book is about Gryphon. At times I feel for him. He can't stop the thinking about his time in the Underworld and stop the voices. The only time he does not hear anything is when Malea is around him. So he makes sure that she's staying near him no matter what. Their time together gets very steamy. I can not wait until the next book and fall for another Argonaut.

** Some spoilers** Gryphon's story was great! Completely unexpected that his soulmate would be Maela but it worked out. I am so amazed at how Elisabeth Naughton weaves her stories together! This book ties in all the books and then some. My favorite part of the story was Maela's relationship with Gryphon. This is supposed to be "Gryphon's story" but I was more drawn to Maela than to Gryohon. Gryphon was fighting the pull of Atalanta in his head and he was trying to overcome it; that was his story in the book. On the other hand was Maela, who has lived for thousands of years wandering the earth because she didn't belong anywhere. As she goes on her 'adventure' with Gryphon, she starts to realize what kind of woman she is. She sees traits in herself that she never realized was there. She becomes the person she was destined to be… it just took a lot of love and life threatening situations for her to get there. It was great to see her grow in this story. I didn't like her at all in the previous book but this one was great because I fully understand her and her actions on the previous book. I'd recommend this story to anyone that loves paranormal romances. I would start from the beginning of the series because there are lots of characters that go in and out of all the books.
